Fourth of July is approaching and I thought it would be nice to take Enoch to see fireworks but I started to wonder if it would be too overwhelming for him or would it be a good for strengthening his socialization skills. He will be four months when the holiday arrives. He's a pretty even tempered puppy. If something startles him instead of running away he goes and inspects it but maybe a firework show is too much for a puppy. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't either. Not only is he too young, but I wouldn't expose any dog, young or adult, to a whole fireworks show with fireworks going one after another. It's just too much and if the dog didn't have problems with hearing a couple of fireworks go off at some distance from his home, being in the thick of it at a show would probably bring on fear problems that he wouldn't have had otherwise.

The weeks leading up to the 4th was the one time of year when our hospital got a slew of calls from owners requesting a sedative so their dog wouldn't completely go to pieces when the fireworks started in the neighborhood. It's a real problem for a lot of dogs.
True wasn't quite the "man of steel" last year when he heard them for the first time...and he was a year old.

Sorry to hijack
What would you do for a dog that has to hear them every friday tell the 4th of July.
I live in tx near the kemah boardwalk and last weekend they went crazy.
They do them everyfriday tell the 4th.
I am lees then 1 mile from there so I can see them great and here them also

I crated my dog and put a blanket over it to dampen as much of the sound as I could. Closing the windows and doors will help dampen the sound, as well.

Is it a set time?
Were the dogs indoors?
Went crazy as in barking or hiding or whining.... ?

whining and hiding under me.
they where indoors
And they barked also but I am not sure if it was because of the fireworks they bark when I nieghbor walks out

I also wanted to add
that I really dont want to give them any meds if I dont have to I dont like giving them extra stuff if they really dont need it.
I am just looking for a way to keep them calm
or help calm them
