Jake came up with some suspicious looking sores on the insides of his legs in the 'armpit' and groin areas... We took a trip to the vet yesterday to verify, she took scrapings to culture and today I get a call saying that the test has turned color already (apparently the earliest she's ever seen it indicate). I'm supposed to take him back early this evening for a shave, some shampoo and some cream...
I understand this stuff is easy to transmit to people. Any suggestions on cleaning everything? I've read a 1:10 bleach:H2O solution for the things that can be washed, and excessive vacuuming. Any other recommendations?
My brother got ringworm several times as a kid, participating in jr high/high school wrestling.
He always got rid of HIS ringworm, by putting rubbing alcohol on the affected area, and then using low heat from a hair dryer. Essentially, he killed the fungus by drying it out.
Ringworm isn't as contagious as most people think. It takes a fair amount of skin-to-skin contact to contract the fungus, and most adults aren't particularly susceptable to it.
Just focus on areas where fungus is likely to thrive- ie, water bowl area; any damp, warm area of the home.
Yes- for some reason I'm still a bit grossed out though, lol. Probably the reason I didn't like biology and didn't consider medicine .
Any suggestions on the cleaning though? I'll ask tonight at the vets office but figured the more knowledge the better. I can't bleach my hardwood floors but I can vacuum the heck out of them... I guess the dog beds will have to go until this is gone . Not sure what to do about my comforter... ugh. I really don't want to get this- although from what the vet said if I was going to get it I would probably already have it.

I'm with Alyssa. Clean and DRY trump bleached.
I had it on (of all strange places) one finger once, from my dog, when I was a kid. Alcohol wipes and DRYing the spots (three small spots, as I recall) worked.
The quilt is not a likely breeding ground, but I'd just wash and thoroughly dry it.
