Rommel has the squirts. Started a bit runny yesterday, and now they are watery. He threw up his dinner last night also. I fed him this morning, and he's only eaten about half of it. He doesn't otherwise act like he's sick, he's happy and playful.
Is there anything I can do to make things more comfortable for him? I've heard canned pumpkin will firm things up a bit. How much do I give?
I would take him to the vet today, but the wife has the truck, and I'm stuck until at least 6pm.

For now:
I’d put him on the soothing-gut diet after a half-day fast except for water.
I’d bait the water to make it appealing.
Later, I’d cook up white rice WAY overcooked (a soupy gruel, really) and give some of that with 1/4 c (1-2 tblsp for a pup) plain (no spices or sugar) pumpkin. If you have only pie filling, then I would skip it completely.
I’d add some white no-skin chicken to the 2nd meal.
He's 6.5 months, 75+ pounds. He's staying hydrated on his own without spiking his water.
I tried the pumpkin/rice thing. I had to add some chicken broth to even get him to lick it. But he wouldn't eat any of it until I put peanut butter in it. This was last night, and no stools yet today.
Last night and this morning, I fed him the following:
- half of a turkey neck
- Chicken back with kidneys attached
- Topped up with 80% ground beef/20% organ meat mixture
He wouldn't eat the chicken last night or this morning, but he ate everything else. He's always loved it in the past.
Do you think it could be bad chicken? I just picked it up a couple of days ago. It was frozen when I got it, and I just hacked off some pieces for the fridge and the rest went right into the freezer. It's my understanding that even if the chicken was bad, that dogs have such short digestive tracts that it shouldn't matter.
He's doing fine now. But, he doesn't have the appetite he had before he got sick. And he's not excited to get his food anymore.
However, I noticed that he chewed a chunk off the corner of his dog house, and there is a small screw missing (about 1/2" long) which is meant to hold a wind flap thing on the doghouse. Could swallowing a screw cause vomiting and diarrhea? No idea if he passed it or not, because I just noticed this today.
It could have been the wood that made him sick also. It's a crappy chinese made dog house. It's real wood, but who knows what kind of stain they coated it with. It smells like cedar wood, but I'm sure that was a "flavoring" added to it to make it seem less cheap.
Check the wood to make sure that it isn't treated lumber. Treated lumber will cause the very symptons that you are describing. If it is treated lumber let me know and I will go into further treatment details. If it is , the dog will get a little better, then sick again, so don't let a little better fool you.
