I have an almost 6 month GSD mix. As of right now, her ears stay down almost all of the time. However, when she is playing/ excited, her ears often come into the upright position.
Here is are two pictures.
She has gigantic ears. I'm debating whether or not to tape her ears. I'd love some feedback. I know that there's no guarantee, especially with her age, but she just stopped teething.
It looks like the base is not flat to her head, which is a good thing. I would tape it. What did her mom and dad ear's look like? Anyway of knowing? Teething and large size can slow down the ears from standing. Now that she is through teething, maybe that Calcium will go to the ear instead of the teeth.
Since she is a mix, maybe her ears are really not genetically destined to stand. You could try taping but in my opinion if I had a dog that was a mix, I would just let the ears do whatever.
As for the calcium, I have to disagree with the other input you have gotten. Giving extra calcium to a growing dog (assuming the dog is on a balanced diet) is NOT a good idea. It can negatively affect the dog's growth.
