Kane will eat all his ground beef and tripe and pick out the chicken, and put it on the floor. He doesnt like egg shells either.
sometimes he will eat the chicken later, but not always.Seems like the only other "cheap meat" are pork bones, and ive been brainwashed in the past to not give pork to dogs..Do I feed him chicken in the morning and pick it up after 15 minutes, hoping he will eat the next day (as per advise read on this site,)or give it to him later(seems to be more hungry at about 9:00 p.m.)and if he eats it then give him the other meat ?? This is the first dog Ive ever given anything raw to .My hubby is telling me to put him back on kibble thinking he doesnt like raw...advise would be appreciated
Im sorry this is similar to another thread but I did not want to
ask this question on someone elses thread.

Pork is perfectly fine for your dog. Good, cheap way to get some red meat in their diet.
Do I feed him chicken in the morning and pick it up after 15 minutes, hoping he will eat the next day (as per advise read on this site,)or give it to him later(seems to be more hungry at about 9:00 p.m.)and if he eats it then give him the other meat ??
If you have no reason to suspect health problems then that sounds like a good plan.
Give the dog the item that he doesn't like first. If he eats, then he can have the rest of the meal. If not, too bad, so sad. I've had to do this with both my dogs on particular food stuffs. Shouldn't take him too long to figure that game out.
My hubby is telling me to put him back on kibble thinking he doesnt like raw.
If this dog could talk, he would sue your husband for slander.

Like Mike said, I usually give my dogs the item of food they seem to like least. For example, I have been giving them beef tripe. 2 of my dogs eat it and the other two back away from it like it's poisen. When I give them only the tripe with nothing else in their bowl they will eat it eventually. I never leave the food down all day, I always pick it up after 15 minutes.

Which meat has the bones? Is it the chicken?
Have you tried giving ground poultry just so he gets it that this is meat like the beef? It may well be that the texture and/or the bones are confusing him.
I've started more than one senior after a lifetime on kibble with ground poultry to get over suspicion about slippery texture or bones. Any dog can be taken aback by the profound difference between kibble (or even ground beef) and work-at-it RMBs. Usually has taken only a meal or two..... not even enough to worry about the missing calcium from being boneless.

Thanks for the replys everyone,
Connie, I give him 2 chicken backs (including necks, they are not really big, or Ill give him 1/4 of a chicken that I cut(again just your basic frying grade smallish chicken .) then about 1/2 lb ground beef,(we bucher our own and I always have beef from previous years so thats cheap) the tripe is canned and I give him 1/2 can of that sometimes an egg, and plain yogart also carrots from the leftovers we cooked .He likes a recreational bone (beef, again, ours) Would this be different to a dog because he acts like hed like to eat the whole bone but its obviously too big.
This year when we butcher, what would you suggest we save that he can totally eat up from the carcass? last year, I only saved marrow bones (pre educated pre leerbug). Will most butchers (Safeway) grind the bones with the meat?Im sure theyll think Ive lost it( Im the only person I know that feeds raw to my dog!!!)

Why not start with ground turkey or chicken (at any meat counter) to segue into the poultry RMBs?
The recreational bone is unrelated, because of the marrow inside that he wants.

I would do the 15 minute feeding.
I got a foster that it took him 2 or 3 days to get the game.
It will make your life easier.
I know this is your dog but all of my dogs eat with 5 minutes and they eat.

Try tiring him out first. Take him on a long walk, then feed him. Make him work for that tasty meat. He's more apt to eat at 9am because he's been awake and moving around for a few hours.
