Tonight for the first time, I took Kodee for a walk late enough that it was dark by the time we got back. He was wearing his backpack, which has a reflective stripe on each side, and being a black (mostly) dog, that is the only way any cars would ever notice him. I was thinking of getting a reflective collar, but I think a vest would be better. I decided to buy him one (he doesn't always wear the backpack), but the only ones I can find have one or two strips of reflective material on them. I was trying to find a vest that is reflective all over. Does anyone know where to find them? There was a lot of traffic tonight b/c of a high school football game, but there are not a lot of street lights in most parts of our little town.
I've gotten a couple of blaze orange vests for my dogs from Ruff Wear. They only have a couple of reflective strips, but still work great. They catch any bit of light and it pops right out at you. You could easily see a dog a 1/4 mile with car headlights.
If you wanted more reflection, you can always get some extra relfective tape at a fabric of craft store and sew it on, but you might be pleasently surprised just how well a couple strips work
I love RuffWear's "KnotACollar".
Danke's tags all hang on it, it doesn't damage her hair, and if it get's caught on something (crate, furniture, fence), it will loosen and not strangle her.
It's obviously not a replacement for a flat collar, but it's a good "around the house collar", and the woven in reflective material makes it a nice safety collar.
We have a hunter orange vest, with reflective tape (again, only a couple of strips on each side) that we got at LLBean. It's such a bright orange that it seems to glow all by itself at night. It's very light weight. We had gotten it last hunting season, as I often took Cerbie for walks in the woods, but I've found it works great for our late evening walks around our city neighborhood as well.
