Hello ,i would like to know how the people out there that have actually trained and titled a dog from a puppy to a Sch 111 would handle dog agression pertaining to a 5 month old mal pup. I bought this do from customdogequipment.com and i know little about bloodlines but ivan balabanov at a private evaluation said the puppy was super and he daid he doesnt say that much.BUT WHEN HE SEES ANOTHER DOG HE IS ABSOLUTELY BONKERS. enviromentally he is as sound as can be ,but if i cant calm this dog agression i dont feel like i will be able title the dog to a high level . thank you and god bless
I don't have title dog, but I did have the same problem with my Mal pup, overly agressive against other dogs and cats, the dog must learn that unprovoke aggression is not acceptable, I severy correct him with the prong collar and as he calm down I praise him and give him treats, the instant he go nuts you have to correct him hard then praise when he calm down, and don't forget to do obedience daily because this will establish your ranking. Now I can take my pup to pet smart and walk him by all the crates for dogs to be adopt and do obedience heeling there, I use treats in my mouth so they don't even know that I'm training him, and now he has learn to calm down and not try to attack any other dogs.
BTW this correction does not kill his drive to bite a sleeve or chase the ball at all.
I have not trained a dog to that level, but I had the same problem with my dog. I'll pass on the help I got from a behaviourist. The first thing is muzzle your dog for safety. Then we went to a dog park at peak time. She said that in a big area if my dog saw one dog he would target that one dog. In a smaller area with 20 or 30 dogs he can't fight them all and its harder for him to focus on which dog to go after. She took him in for about 15-20 minutes on leash. He lunged at several dogs but not with the same intensity as before. Then I went in and walked with them. Everytime he went after a dog I yelled "too bad" and walked away. HIs focus immediately switched from the other dogs to the fact that I was leaving him. The trainer held his leash and did not allow him to follow me. After a minute I would go back. The next time he lunged we repeated the process. In an hour he relaxed enough to lay down while other dogs were running around. The next time we took him he progressed to playing with another dog. Previously I had corrected the heck out of him with no improvement. We still have work to do but I've seen an enormous change. Hope this helps.
