Hi, I'm new to this so bare with me please!I'm not sure if this is where I should post this question. But,several years ago I worked for a trainer in my area who trained dogs for the police and did the tracking etc. They business was run horriably and he was more concerned with his personnal life then with the business and scammed people. Not to mention took lousy care of his animals.I was there for 2 years only because I felt I couldn't leave the dogs.I have had jobs threw that time but have always thought of how much I enjoyed that job.I see a rottweiler (I have 2) and just melt and just love dogs in general. My question is how does one learn about the training and if anyone knows of a place in NJ that does this kind of training, to work to learn would be awsome!!I really feel its what I want to do. Thank you!!
Hi, I would LOVE to work for someone with training the police dogs, any kind of training but have always been fasinated with that.I live in northwest NJ,on the PA line.
I have found that most trainers working Police K9's are in the military or are police officers. Have you considered applying to the police academy? You usually have to work the street for several years before being eligible to apply for the K9 Unit. At least in my state that is the case.
I would also consider attending a dog training school.

I think Toni is looking to work for a trainer that contracts to PD`s to run their training program. Like here in the Pocono`s some PD`s use CastleK9( in Mechanicsburg, Pa.)

If your interest is patrol dog training call some local PD`s and see where they train then contact that trainer. If your interested in general obedience there are places all around your area.
