Hi everyone,
we just got around to looking at the fish oil supplements for Max, we've been on raw food for almost a year now. And we found this one at the supermarket that looks pretty good.
I was also going to get some vitamin E to go with it cos I know you're sposed to give them in conjunction. But on the ingredients for the fish oil it looks like it has some vitamin E in it already (though I could be reading that wrong). Do I need to give more or will this be enough?

How much does the dog weigh?
That determines the fish oil dose and (roughly) the E dose.
The link: I'd want to know what kind of fish, since I see no info about heavy metals. Without that, I'd have to know the fish was either a low-metal fish (like wild salmon) or very small (and therefore also low-metal) fish like sardines and anchovies.

Hi Connie, thanks for the quick response. I've emailed the company to ask about the fish used so hopefully I'll have an answer to that pretty soon.
Max was about 25 kg last time we weighed him - that's 55 pounds. I don't think he's gotten much bigger since then so lets say between 55 and 65 pounds, maybe 70 but not more than that.
Just as a side note, we were told he was a rottie x english pointer, but now I'm thinking he's probably a pittbull, his facial features and temperment seem to match pittie more than rottie or pointer. Either way he is the size of a pittbull.
So by that reckoning we would give 6-7 grams of fish oil right? Which would be 6-7 capsules.

This is what I got from the company in response to my email.
The source of oil is sardines and anchovies and other fish species which may be include are Mackerel, and Herring to form a fish oil blend. Anchovies and Sardines have the highest naturally occurring levels for the fatty acids EPA and DHA, and that is why it is used. The oil ratio is EPA 180: DHA 120 per 1000 mg.
To ensure our fish oil capsules are up to standard, it undergoes several processes ensuring the purity of the oil, that includes molecular distillation. The oil also is tested for many elements, including; rancidity and freshness, heavy metals (lead, mercury and cadmium) pesticides, PCB's and dioxins.
