Or do you just get them vaccinated for it (b/c of the law) and keep the vaccination records in case you need them?
The reason I'm asking is that Kodee has an ID tag that is riveted to his leather collar, and the only "tag" that he has hanging off his collar is the rabies tag. But twice now it's come off. I'm not sure if it's gotten caught on something or not. I hate hanging tags (I think they're kind of dangerous), which is why his ID tag is the kind that is riveted on. He's a housedog, we almost never use a crate anymore (if we do, we take his collar off 1st), and he's never outdoors unattended. I really don't want to put this stupid rabies tag back on his collar. We live out in the country, so city ordinances don't apply to us. What do you all do?
I have many dogs in our kennel and those darn rabies tags come off all the time. If they fall off I just leave them off now. I do keep records and it may be a good idea to keep copies in your glove box just incase. Unless it's a legal issue where you live I wouldn't be worried.
I guess it is a good way to id your dog if they get loose but if you have an id on the collar I think that's good enough.

Luc, yes, b/c he doesn't bother his tags. Teagan, no, b/c she eats her tags. Neb hasn't been vaccinated for rabies - I'm waiting til he's at least a year.
Well no, Roo does have his rabies tag, and I haven't put it together. He wears a collar with my address and phone number on it though and is mircochipped.

Hans wheres his rabies tag, but when I took him to Petco for grooming they told me they wouldn't accept the tag. They called the vet to confirm he was vaccinated.
I carry Cassie's tag in my wallet. Never even bothered to put it on her.
They just get torn off somehow, and I can't stand the noise anyways. If I needed a bell so I'd know where she is, I'd expect some other caring dog owner to relieve me of the dog.
Molly has hers on her collar just because it hasn't dropped off yet. If there were any question about whether she has been vaccinated I have a copy of her records in a plastic sleeve I can take with me to prove it. Only time I have been asked for the records was when she was spayed. She was vaccinated by a different vet than the one who spayed her so I had to go to the first vet and get a copy.
I don't know what my GSD does, but the last 2 rabies tags she's had have magically disappeared-come off loop on collar. My St. outgrew ger collar that has the tag on it, just haven't gotten to putting it on another collar yet. So, my Lab is the only one right now with his tag on his collar.
