Just wanted to ask what all do you mix together when you fill a kong? I discovered that Jake really likes cream cheese, but I don't want to pack the whole thing with cream cheese... that would get expensive really fast. Do you mix half kibble? or ?
Thanks Tommy- One of my dogs likes PB and the other seems to like cream cheese, lol. I've usually just scraped some up along the inside, but it doesn't take them long to finish it. I know people freeze them... just wondered if you pack them solid?
Yes, I do, both solidly packed and frozen. I will sometimes put his salmon oil tabs in there and/or bits of treats, bits of liver, chunks of chicken, etc... It is like a little treasure chest for him to uncover.
I make a mixture of canned dog food, raw meat chunks, whatever berries I have in the freezer (blueberries, raspberries), any leftover cooked meat in the fridge. I pack the kong full and always have at least one in the freezer.
They do just fine in the dishwasher. I prefer that method to handwashing, just because I worry about soap left inside that might make the dog ill if I handwash and rinse.
I toss the Kong and a few other grubby toys in the dishwasher every few weeks, mostly out of anal retentiveness. I doubt there's really a need, however. We're talking about animals that happily consume feces and rotting squirrel corpses.
If you decide to join the obsessively clean club, make sure you put the Kong on the top rack in the dishwasher though, or the heat is a little intense and will break the Kong down over time.

No need to "fill" a Kong, IMO. A little bit of whatever the substance is smeared on the inside wall still provides a long-lasting diversion, and far fewer calories. Peanut butter is a favorite here. A scant teaspoonful smeared in a thin layer on the inside wall of the Kong.
(I also put Kongs in the dishwasher, top rack...glad to see I'm not the only one!)
I like to put canned dog and then freeze them. Not so much in the winter but it makes a great snack in the hot summer days. In the winter it's peanut butter. Not a lot, just enough to keep them busy.
Yeah I also am in the dishwasher club, kongs and nylabones)
