okay, while this isn't a pressing training issue, it amused me, but also made me realize i really don't always know what goes on in luc's doggy brain.
i recently (this week) decided to stop letting luc up on the bed. he's been allowed on the bed for a year or so (i like having him sleep with me), but b/c of the amount of time toby spends over, we've always been sleeping w/the bedroom door closed b/c toby and luc have the same side of the bed, and while i sleep well, toby gets shoved by luc. so that we can have the bedroom door open and the cats can sleep with us, and so that i don't have to keep changing the sheets b/c toby has dog hair on his pillow, luc is no longer allowed on the bed.
he figured it out after a few times, i'll give him that. i made him a bed out of some pillows next to my bed (teagan and neb handily destroyed the latest dog bed i bought), and put him on them in a down and praised him. then, for two nights, when i went to bed, luc would moon around at the door but refuse to come in the room, even when i called him (and he always comes when i call!). he'd even skitter away a bit when i called him, then stick his head around the door. i figured he was sulking, and decided to just ignore him. to my vast amusement, once i turned on my side with back to luc and the door, i heard luc sneak into the room (he slept on the floor).
so last night, watching tv, and sick of him mooning around the door, i got up and brought him into the room and sat with him on the floor.
PARTY! OMG! luc got soooo excited! he had a big doggy grin on his face for about an hour, and was prancing around. then he happily went to sleep on his pillows, and went to his pillow at bedtime and was lying on them when i left for work this morning.
....toby thought luc may not have made the distinction between the bed, and bedroom itself? and thought that when he wasn't allowed on the bed, he wasn't allowed in the room at all? or was he actually sulking? luc, while i love him, is not the brightest dog out there. whatever it was, it was great to see him so happy, but all i could think was 'luc, whatever goes on in that little brain of yours....it's not what goes on in mine....'

Sounds like my Emma. When I first got her and she was an only dog, I had a strict NO DOGS rule for my bedroom. Emma is absolutely excellent with most rules and she would never even put a toe in my room. As my dog family grew I ran out of room and when I was raising a pup that I didn't want doggy, I thought putting his crate in my room would be a good idea. I then had a dog returned to me and had to put his crate in my room too. Emma was grumpy about this and would do the "moon around" thing. Then, she'd wait till she thought I was sleeping and sneak in.
I began to notice my door pushed all the way open, and the pile of dirty laundry that I'd left on the floor (I'm a messy person) would be warm in the morning, and had more hair on them than usual
After all, the "no dogs" rule obviously no longer applies, but I'd never explicitly allowed her in. So she had to sneak in!
You obviously *explicitly* allowed Luc in. I might do this with my Emma after my fosters get adopted.. thanks for the idea! (not on my bed though, hehe)

I did explicitly allow him in, and explicitly allow him on the bed. I just thought it was so strange (but funny) he wouldn't come in the room, just b/c he couldn't come on the bed!
Emma sounds a bit like Luc. Luc likes to take socks out of my closet or hamper (it's open, he prefers dirty socks of course) and carry them into the den and sleep on them. he doesn't chew them, thank goodness, but if I don't pay attention, the den ends up with a little sock pile.

Danke lept up onto the bed last night.
She HATES being picked up, and I had picked her up to check her weight on the bathroom scale. As soon as I put her down, she hightailed it to the bedroom and lept up on the bed with my husband, burying her muzzle in his armpit.
Something along the lines of "Save me Dad! Don't let her pick me up again!"
Funny dogs.

Alyssa, that's so funny! The weekend I adopted Luc was Canada Day weekend, and on the second night of fireworks, he freaked out mid-walk and would not move, no matter what. I tried to wait him out but it wasn't happening. So I picked him up, slung his front end over my shoulder, and started walking home with him. We passed by one man who didn't even blink as I went past carrying my GSD. I put him down at the end of a street, and suddenly 'I CAN WALK MYSELF!' Heh.

LOL
I should have picked Danke up more as a puppy.
This is a dog that will tolerate every possible affront to her dignity. She will tolerate all manner of handling and touching, I was very vigilant about handling her, touching her all over, picking up her feet, etc as a puppy.
But I never picked her up. As a result, she really dislikes the helpless feeling. If she thinks I'm about to pick her up (sees me pull out the bathroom scale, for example) she suddenly becomes very interested with the inside of her crate. She will come, rather reluctantly, but only if called. The ears drop and the tail tucks when I pick her up.
Big baby.
The second I went into the bedroom and sat on the bed next to her, she was totally over it. Thankfully she isn't a brooder.
