Just thought I'd start a little survey post. It's 2*F now and supposed to go to 0 or lower tonight with 40mph wind gusts. Molly wanted out so I opened the door and when the cold wind hit her she decided she could "hold it" a little longer. She'd better get out there soon or she's going to pop. The poor pup is still getting over her skin problems and doesn't as have much hair as usual right now.
So how cold is it getting where you are at tonight?

It is -8 here right now with an expected low of -11 with a -32 to -40 windchill factor late tonight.....my dogs, who usually like a leisurely potty break at bedtime (10pm) go FAST...don't even need to give them a "hurry up" command. Before I am out the door they are done and wanting back in.

Here in Wa we're just hitting the end of a really cold spell. Two nights ago it was 10 degrees, tonight it's 24 and still snowing, we've got about 18 inches on the ground right now.

last night it was -25C with the windchill, which is fine. teagan starts to get stiff w/her hips at around -30, but she had no problems last night. even neb seems to be getting used to the winter, he's good about going outside now and last night he didn't want to come in, despite going for a long-ish walk and playing in the backyard and field (he loves to dig in the snow, what a shock for a JRT/husky).
my biggest problem is we've had 30cm of snow since friday, not too bad, but our yard is very open and the blowing means we've got depths of around 50cm. ....and teagan doesn't like peeing in it (fair enough, it's deep). i've flattened out a couple of areas, but we've moved her pee area to the road, which kind of sucks given that it's a road and we're on a (thankfully like a tertiary at best) bus route.
....and you don't even want to know how slow my sunday (mid-snow) run was....took forever. but it was beautiful!

It's currently 11 degrees here (-1 with windchill). BRRR!
Got snow ALL weekend, which sadly ended in rain, which then promptly froze solid... so now the bountiful white stuff is well crusted over, and anyone who didn't do any shoveling around their car yesterday probably won't get it out until february...
Oscar is not so into it - he was sick all last week and lost a bit of weight (from an already lean frame). His coat is so short that he's literally got no insulation right now, so his jackets are a must, and yesterday we even put his booties on (despite his best "i hate you" face and refusal to BUDGE from the spot we put them on for a good 3 minutes...). And then to be faced with "finding a spot" in foot deep, crusted over snow... I swear sometimes he thinks we make all this weather happen just to spite him... poor beast.

It's 16 F here right now, with wind chills bringing it down to zero. Minus 3 F expected tonight. The temps are starting to feel downright balmy, as cold as it's been, but the amount of snow we have is starting to make my beast and I feel caged.
The place we usually walk is covered in two feet of snow, as is the park that we do our frisbee play and such in. We have been relegated to the sidewalks which really haven't been cleared all that much either, and I always come home with a shivering dog in spite of his coat. Murphy is lean and short-coated like Oscar, so he shares his lack of enthusiasm for the cold weather. On the upside, in spite of not getting his usual amount of exercise, the cold and slogging through deep snow is tiring Murphy out enough to keep him mellow.
The sun just came out for a second. I think it's mocking me I can barely see it with the wind whipping snow past my window in sheets.
I'm supposed to be in Florida right now but there's no way to get there from here......

I have the same weather as the last 3 posters. I have one single-coated dog (like the Dobe) and 3 double coated dogs. Unfortunately the single coated guy is the one who needs the most exercise. But he can't tolerate more than 10 minutes at a time before he stands there pathetically shivering, lifting his paws to keep them from freezing, even though he has a jacket. Poor guy. I have a heck of a time keeping him from going stir crazy. And his recent actions with the other dogs have bought him even more crate time.
The other 3 love it and will run and jump through the snow and tire themselves out. I only let them stay out for 30-40 minutes max at a time, but the deep snow is great for tiring them out.
Supposed to warm up slightly this week (and rain...) so I am going to run my poor short-fur as much as possible then.

speaking of single coated dogs....last night on our walk, we were going past a low-rise apartment near me, and it's got a fenced-in area off of ground floor verandas. the fence was open, and out ran a white chi (do they come in white?), no coat - it must have been 10lbs or under. neb wanted to go play, it stared at us for a moment, and then went back into the fenced-in area. i couldn't believe a dog with a single coat like that, and that small, wasn't dying of the cold. neb and i hung around a bit to make sure it wasn't stuck outside, i didn't want to enter into the fenced-in area (being private property and all), but we waited and it didn't come back. seemed like a friendly enough dog, in a slightly manic fashion. i have to admit, i used to think dog coats were over-used, especially on small dogs, but knowing a bit more about how easily certain dogs can get cold - i was shocked to see the chi out with nothing on in that much snow and at those temps. i was also pissed b/c it ran out of the 'yard' into a grassy area exactly 4M from a busy, relatively major, street.
....we're getting that rain xmas eve, but it's supposed to start snowing right after. the roads will be lovely.

Our low was about 11 degrees yst. It was about 20, (14 w/windchill) when I took the dogs for a walk/off-leash romp. They both did well. After running around they were both laying in the snow and eating it for a drink.
A relative lives in Palmer, AK. He says, he won't take his dog (Blue Heeler) for a walk if it gets more than -25. He said once he went for a walk and his jacket froze stiff, and his dog's feet were in pain, so he had to carry him back home.
