I am taking a road trip with Caleb to KY for New Year's. I will be in Lexington Tues night, but then I have a day and a half to do/go wherever. Any ideas on "must see" places? State parks w/great scenery, etc.?
I am thinking of moving that way-trying to avoid paying a million dollars that I don't have to have my horses at my house. Want to get a feel for the lay of the land and thought you guys might have suggestions for beautiful places in KY. Thanks!

Don't miss the KY Horse Park. My sister lived in Lexington for 8 years and just recently moved to Bowling Green. Lexington is one of my favorite places, I could move there easily. It's got a lot to do, with a small town atmosphere.
Have a great trip!

Perfect! Thanks. If I had another day or two, I'd bring a horse, but this is gonna have to be a quick trip, and Caleb's easier to hide in a hotel room. I am so sick of Chicago weather and prices!!!

The Parade of Champions (or whatever it's called) is really great. I saw John Henry before he died and in his mid 30's he still had an attitude. I guess the day before I was there he decided to get a little feisty and cleared the viewing area (which is like a small little tiny arena with bench seats) they made everyone with small kids and strollers leave the area before they brought him in and then warned us all to be ready to bail out. LOL

I did find that, Sarah. I was just hoping for personal recommendations. I only have a day and a half, and I'll have a companion with me that most people will think is a dog, so it limits me somewhat as to where I can go. I'm thinking pretty scenery, lots of great pics, and hiking. Horse park is unfortunately closed.
I love Southerners too!

Amen to that, living costs keep going up and IMHO quality of the areas keep going down and the weather, i have no issues with cold and snow but this cold one day rain and slush the next sucks. I've been planning relocation also, want to get somewhere simpler with less people. Living in the middle of nowhere with less traffic. Good luck searching

Ditto. I just bought a new dog hauler from a guy from Lexington, and in talking to him, I thought I really should check out that area as a possible relocation spot; it's close enough to "home" that I can drive home in an emergency (can't easily put 6 dogs on a plane), far enough to be different and a bit warmer, and much more conducive to my dog & horse lifestyle. I feel like at my age, it's kind of my last chance to do something nuts before I need to be responsible.

I wouldn't call age a issue or what your thinking of doing nuts. Any change that improves your way of life or just makes you happy is a positive and IMHO very responsible thing, lifes to short to put limits on things.
