My boyfriend found out this morning that his gsd coppi has cancer
I didn't go with him so I don't know what the vet said. Does anybody have any recommended links to basic info about cancer in dogs that they could pass on? I would like to read up on it in case he wants to talk (even if it's highly unlikely- he's more the 'strong silent type').

I'm not sure if it's metastasized or not... The only things he told me were that the vet did a blood test to find out, and that they would eventually probably have to put him down .
I do know he's a 6 yr old intact white gsd. I'll see if he wants to talk about it tonight and ask some more questions.

Thanks all for the care and concern.

well... no new information other than the vet gave them 10 days worth of painkillers and then he will go back to be euthanized
I'm sure if there were suggested options the vet would have brought them up; they've been going to this vet for the last 15 years give or take.
Thanks for all of the kind thoughts- hopefully he won't have to go through this again for either of his family's other two dogs. I know it's extra hard because this one was really his from a puppy.
First I am sorry about the dogs diagnosis. It is a hard thing to have and live with.
I find this response by the vet odd and I have never heard of a blood test for cancer. My 5 year old male was diagnosed with lymphoma in May of 2007 and underwent chemo treatments and was in remission until September 2008. He is currently undergoing chemo again and went right back into remission. Over the past 1 1/2 I have met alot of different dogs being treated for different cancers.
