It's been bugging me since I got home so I have to ask! Let me explain: Today I went to a small mom and pop pet food store to pick up some zuke's treats and a bag of kibble, while I was there a girl walked in with what looked to me like an adorable GSD pup.
She saw me standing there with my pup and naturally came up to talk and I noticed it had the weirdest coat I had ever seen..
It was 4 months old and had the black and tan, saddle markings but where the black is on a normal coat it was a cinnamon color, like this liver: http://www.geocities.com/sahiela2/liverandtanpup.jpg It wasn't quite that noticeable though, I didn't see until it was closer and could compare him to Reesee.
However, the oddest thing was the coat was like a sheep. Woolly..not long at all but it just had that..lumpy look throughout the body like those white dog beds often have but less noticeable. It wasn't matted and it was so incredibly soft I was just in awe. It felt like one of those velvety rabbits, the kind that almost feel cool when you pet them. It looked just like a GSD in proportion though, except for the tail seemed a little short but that may just be me used to my pups long gangly tail.
I tried looking it up but I don't see anything like that anywhere. The fur around his face wasn't long like I notice in the long haired pups and the hair on his ears was the normal short as well, I see some of the plush coats with funny ear fur, lol.
She says he has papers and she saw the parents..but she paid $300 for him, saying he was the last of the litter and the guy had him higher but needed to find a home fast. Also advertised all german parents. I would be suspicious. I wish I could have got a pic, would have weirded her out but ah well, I'll never see em again.
Anyway has anyone ever heard of this? I see in the AKC coat standards woolly coat is a fault. Just wondering if it happens or if this is some mix that came out to look like a GSD.
