I have had a fixed boxer for 6 months who has had no previous behavior problems. Two months ago my friend moved in with her fixed Boxer/Pit mix who has a tendency to be food agressive and dominant.
We have been very precatious. We feed them in seperate rooms and they do not have toys laying around to play with. In the last two months, the Pit has attacked my boxer 4 times which what seems like over nothing. There has been no severe injuries yet but the boxer bleeds and has teeth marks every time. Last night his ear was bitten all the way through. We have to pry the dogs apart and then seperate them for about an hour afterwards. They never stop on their own. The fights always happen while we are home. They are alone all day together and there has not been one fight by themselves. They even sleep together at night.
What more can I do to prevent this from happening?

Don't leave them alone together anymore. I wouldnt let them have any contact with each other period. Do you have crates?

Yeah that sounds like a good idea to me Steve.
Don't know if I'd like coming home to a dead or dieing dog some day.
And I surely wouldn't want to get up in the middle of the night because of some disagreement.
The way way to stop these problems Amy is to NEVER allow the two dogs together unsupervised again. Never allow the two dogs together unless both you and the other owner are present......and watching and really present, not just in the same area, but actually engaged with the dogs. Otherwise the dogs should be separated.
If you don't get a handle on this now, just start sending some money to your vet on account........On account you're going to need their services sooner or later.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.

With them on leashes, and a human on the end of each leash.
I am emphasizing the post above because you have allowed this to happen to your dog four times. Please don't allow it again. It's your job to make sure that it doesn't.
Steve mentioned crates. Do you have them?
P.S. I'm glad that you posted and asked.

We have one crate. They are both inside and house trained dogs and keeping them seperated all the time would honestly not be worth having them (I mean as enjoyable pets or them having enjoyable lives). I am ok with keeping them seperated while alone.
I am just wondering is there a way to stop the agression? Muzzle training maybe? Is it because he is the more dominant dog and I do not pay him enough attention? Could it be something I am doing?

More like what you're not doing. Separating them is not going to make them sad. They can be perfectly happy 10' apart. Is it an enjoyable life watching every single time they move trying to figure out what is going to trigger a fight? My honest opinion is instead of wasting time trying to make them buddies, just manage them with separation and leashes and they will be perfectly content with a lot less stress for you too.

This post makes me very sad.
This poor boxer has done nothing wrong, and he's getting attacked and hurt in his own home.
This is not fair for the boxer. You are allowing him to be attacked and injured. In his eyes, you are not standing up for him or protecting him.
You may very likely end up with a dog aggressive boxer. Please consider the impact on your own dog and not how much a crate will inconvenience you. It is your job to ensure your dog has a happy and SAFE life. Trust be, he would rather spend some time in a crate than have his ear bitten through!!! His life will be MORE enjoyable, not less, if he is separated from his tormenter.
This is not his fault. Do not subject him to this anymore, please.

It doesn't sound to me like it's enjoyable living with the current situation and seeing your dog attacked FOUR TIMES in a couple of months.
What is more important here? If they fight when you are both home, you need to take steps to ensure that doesn't happen. Keeping them separated will ensure their safety physically and mentally. It is your job to protect your dog, and frankly, I find it a little odd that after 4 attacks on your dog in a few months you don't want to be bothered taking steps to protect and care for your dog. It is your responsibility to do so.
edited to add: at risk of sounding like a giant bitch, if it isn't 'worth it' to you to take care of your dog and protect it from being attacked, then maybe you really need to rethink dog ownership. i know angela said this kind of post makes her sad - honestly, it makes me angry.

It really is not that hard to keep them separated unless you are actively watching them. It takes a few days of work to get the routine down for you and a few more for them to figure it out, but it really is not that hard.
Once you get the hang of it is much less stressful to both the dogs and to you.
