I have to feed Kasey, by order of the derma vet, a whole new protein for a while to make sure he's not sensitive to chicken. The only ones he hasn't had are rabbit and buffalo/bison. We live in So. California and I can't find rabbit around here. I looked on line, but the cheapest I can find is some gourmet place that costs almost $6/lb and I can't afford that for a month or more when he weighs 80lbs. Any found anything that is more reasonable online anywhere?

There is a rabbit shortage which accounts for the scarcity and the high price when you do find it.
I've acutally seen buffalo and bison in my small market's butcher case. It isn't cheap either but it's more readily available than rabbit where I live.
Another option might be Bravo, but I don't know if it's a lot more expensive than getting from Creston:
My friends here in the Houston area will ship you whole rabbits that are farm raised...they're just getting into the produce for pets business. The government has made it almost impossible for a family farm to use the word "organic" so all their hard work to farm in an eco-friendly and human biology friendly way has made it possible for pet owners to get some great meat for a very fair price. Send me a message thru the site here and I can give you the info to contact them. I swear the government is doing stuff like this to put family farms out of business..it's unbelievable. As anyone who has compared, a free range chicken tastes so much better than the corporate farm raised versions and without all the drugs and hormones.
Have you looked into the so cal barf co-op? I use the SFRaw co-op and buy stuff monthly. I'm still getting the hang of ordering but you can't beat the quality and prices. I'm not sure if the socal works the same as up here. Just a thought.
They are in yahoo groups.
SOCAL BARF
The SoCal BARF group offers pick-up locations throughout Southern California as well as in Fresno, Stockton, and
Truckee. To learn more, go here: http://www.socalbarf.com/socalpickup.htm
I get whole rabbits for $8.00 per bunny (about 10 - 15 lbs, skin and all) from a guy in town who breeds them for feeders for snakes. They are naturally and carefully raised (he uses them for stew bunnies for his family and friends as well).
I don't know how popular herpetology is in So Cal, but it may be worth looking into

Would/could this be de-furred, by any chance?
Can you post the info? A link? (If not, yes, please, I would like a PM.)

BTW, just a reminder always to reserve at least one "novel" but available protein. No one wants to be in the situation of trying to construct an elimination diet (for allergies) out of kangaroo.
Save a meat -- don't ever give the "reserved" meat -- that you could use for RMBs and that the dog never tastes at all until then, just in case. (Elimination diets must be never-eaten foods. The RMB part can be a big problem for a raw feeder.)
