I also have an extremely lazy (and cheap) habit of returning to the freezer or 'fridge (depending on when the next use will be) the empty zip-lock bag when I don't feel like washing it (which is usually the case). I have a baggy in the freezer filled with used dog-meat baggies.
In the 'fridge, I have a big tray from a picnic cooler in which all dog stuff is kept (no leaking through to other shelves). In it, I tend to have recently-emptied baggies and even foil shaped to fit over a can (like salmon, mackerel, etc.). I go there first when I need a new container. The fish oil is in there, and leftover unseasoned people-produce, fish skin, etc.
I pull that tray out at mealtimes and have everything I need.
What a great idea about putting the used baggies back in the fridge dirty for next use.
I wash them as well so as to assuage my guilt of the landfill. Plus they're awful to try to get grease free.
I don't need lots of room in the fridge because of dog size, so I usually use a plate. However, I will now get a small tray that will hold the full baggies as well as the empty dirty baggies for next use.

Wow talk about a timely thread! I am going to start keeping my used bags in the freezer and reusing them too. As a matter of fact, last night my concious was keeping me up worrying about all the plastic bags I go through because of repackaging the chicken frames and turkey necks/wings that I buy in bulk.
I have a seperate freezer for dog stuff. The lamb, venison, and pork neck bones don't stick together or if a couple do stick together they are easily seperated by throwing them on the cement, but chicken and turkey bones require seperate bags.

I am like you Connie (and Nora and Susan!!!) Lol. I just did it out of my sheer lazy AND save the planet.
