Well I'm sort of freaking out. I just noticed in Bruno's poop sesame seed looking things so I looked it up on the Internet and it comes up with websites regarding tapeworm? So now I'm thinking it must be the raw food I'm giving him. Help!
Ok I kind of feel like an idiot. I just read that the Embark HK has sesame seeds in it....its that right?
The only other extra he gets is eggs, yogurt, Perdue skinless chicken breast. He has had parts of a whole Perdue chicken in the last two weeks from Kroger. I found a raw food supplier in Indy http://www.mypetcarnivore.com which I bought some chicken necks for the cats and gave him some of their Super Chicken Mix which is the chicken ground up?
Just as an FYI, the way that dogs get the most common tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum) is to ingest a flea... It is the intermediary host for the flea. The flea larvas eat the tapeworm egg sac and then grow up.
There is a tapeworm (Taenia) that can be transmitted by a rabbit or (I think) also other rodent small mammals. I believe they have to eat the gut of an actively infected mammal.
Barbara, thank you for the disclosure! I feel a little better Too funny!
Jessica, I did read that about the fleas too but I was pretty sure that wasn't it. My head was just screaming to me its the raw diet! Now you have to take the poop to the vet which he will probably get all over you about feeding raw and then oh then mom and dad are going to say I TOLD YOU SO - you shouldn't be feeding him raw stuff and chicken bones! Look what you've done and then the cats and me and the kids would end up with a tapeworm of our own! Did I mention I panicked?
Alyssa, yes you would know but I'm sure you would never use it against me right?
