My youngest male has had dry skin since I got him almost 6mths old but when I started to use salmon oil it started to heal up good then I guess it was the dog food because he all of a sudden minus fleas here in florida ( it has been a problem due to no real cold weather for the past two years) he has been scratching on and off I gave him a bath plus flea meds but it hasnt gone away yet plus he has a ear infections any natural ideas on how to care for this.
I also read up about vaccinating dogs so I already said only rabies since its the law here. That it can cause health problems in our dogs.

Vet. Immediately. No matter what the cause (very likely environmental allergies, but no guarantee at all), the dog is in pain and ear infections only get worse.
No. There is no natural way to deal with a bacterial ear infection.
After it's taken care of, you must examine the insides of the ears regularly. First sign of debris or redness, post back. Catch it before it becomes infected, and you can very likely deal with it (with instruction) on your own.
I did take him to the vet last time all they said it was dry skin which should go away.... The ear infection just started I guess too much water got in his ears? I had gotten ear drops for him and someone told me just to use vinegar or peroxide in his ear because its just like ear drops. I know he is allergic to fleas he is never really in the grass unless he is out on a walk but he has constantly been from crate to paved kennel(I am sure its not the environment). I will definitely go to the vet tomorrow to find out then -he just started to become very itchy. But had dry skin since I got him from previous owner, it did go away but I switch his dog food 3 times already due to recalls or health issues that were showing..

There's so much here.
1. But anyway, environmental allergens are inhaled. Crate/pavement/kennel have nothing to do with it.
2. Ear infections can be otitis externa, a kind of ear infection that in humans we call "swimmer's ear," but are more likely to be bacteria, yeast, or a combination. Still, the vet can see if it's water. The vet will look at the debris under a 'scope and see what it is. Experience and this professional diagnosis will help in the future. For now, I would not (1) rely on a guess, or (2) introduce liquid into an ear that may be yeast-infected.
Dry skin: What is his food? Are you giving fish oil?
hey everyone came back from vet they said he could have a little bit of water trap in his ear either due to the climate change or when he was playing in water gave me hydroxine for him to dry out ear and to help with itching of skin which is due to a little flea.We are working on getting lot of palets of grass to cover the sand and to keep on with the flea treatment every 5 weeks until gone or until its a low amount we will just keep on treating every 5 weeks to stop his itching. He even said if the flea bit him and is gone from that spot or is not on him he may itch for two weeks.
Any ideas on flea treatments? There is a new flea advantage called comfortis but its only been out a year and isnt certain yet about any side effects other then vomiting & nausea. Should I even try it I am afraid it could do harm to him...
