A few days ago, I thought I noticed a spot on my 1.5yo Schipperke that the hair was gone. She is so furry, I really couldn't tell that the hair was gone (she has an undercoat like a Shepherd).
Today, it is obviously a bald spot. It looks like small raised bumps with no color on the skin.
I called the vet and the soonest they can work her in is 10:15 in the morning.
What ever this is seems to be happening fast because a couple of days ago I just kinda thought she had some hair missing and now there is absolutely no hair.
The spot is about two inches in diameter and it is slightly above her right hip towards the back.

Had you given her a bath lately? I had a big, heavy longcoated shepherd several years back, I gave him a bath and I didn't get all the soap out, and he ended up with a bald spot the size of a dinner plate on his side.

Is the dog what they call "blue coated"?

I ask because of reading that alopecia is common (or not uncommon) in blue-coated Schipperkes.
But allergies present with much of what you describe, as we all know.

A similar thing happened to our old Pomeranian - he was so furry we didn't notice the little bald patch over his shoulders until it was about the size of a half dollar... he didn't have any apparent redness, itchiness or sores. I actually can't remember what the vet diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure they prescribed an antibiotic and a special shampoo for his particular case. It went away with treatment.
Definitely see a vet - hair loss can be caused by all manner of things from hormone imbalances to parasites - your vet will know what to look for and how to diagnose something specific.

The alopecia article I read mentioned Pomeranians, Chow Chows, and Schipperkes!
I will try to find it again.
And yes, I'm glad the vet is being consulted.

She hasn't had a bath in about two weeks and I used the same shampoo as always.
I don't know what "blue coated" is, but she is very black and to my understanding there are two colors of this breed, black and brown.
Connie, where did you read about the commonness or lack thereof of alopecia in Schipperkes?
I am freaking out because this has happened so rapidly. I was trying to think back to when I first noticed it and I think it was on Sunday.
Nothing different in her diet that I can remember.
She is a very itchy dog, but this is different.
I did start giving her fish oil/vit e more regularly because I wasn't giving it to her every day and I thought if I would give every day more regularly it would prevent some of the itchies.
That has been for about 2-3 weeks she has been getting her fish oil/vit e everyday.

I'm sure Connie has some excellent articles she can link to, but here's a nice chart I found with a very quick google search - there are "breeds commonly affected" listed in some of the descriptions, and as Connie noted, spitz type dogs seem to be predisposed to a number of hair loss issues:
http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/health/hairloss.htm
Don't freak out just yet. There may be something wrong, but it sounds like your dog isn't in much discomfort at present - you should know much more in 24 hours when you can get in to see that vet, and hopefully you'll be able to start treating whatever it is right away.

Also, her fur has a slight red tinge to it. I thought this may have been due to our weather warming and she has been outside more in the sun. But I don't recall her getting that tinge last year.
It's the thick undercoat that has the tinge.
