Chula occasionally seems to have issues when she is running; her knee seems to momentarily give out on her and she seems to trip a little bit. It happens so briefly that I'm not sure of what I am seeing.
She does not have a limp, and as far as I can tell she is not in any pain. Is this what a luxating patella looks like?

Hard to tell, Lynne. A Google search seems to indicate that a Grade 1 luxation (the most minor) may or may not cause the dog to limp or favor the leg and usually no pain is involved. The knee cap slips easily back into place so I guess it could look like a momentary hitch, or trip, when Chula is running.
I know that in higher grade cases, the knee seems to lock up, with the knee cap getting stuck out of position...which is quite obvious and is painful.
It might not be a bad idea to have it checked out. If it is a low-grade luxation, then conservative management might keep it from becoming any worse.
