I know the the subject of dog aggression/attacks while out walking has been discussed innumerable times and I've even chimed in on some of those posts. After several annoying close calls, I started carrying an ASP baton about 6 mos ago. It's very unobtrusive, less than 10" when collapsed, but extends to 25" with a flick of the wrist.
I got to use it tonite while out on our regular neighborhood walk. A large lab came barking and aggressively charging across the street toward us. I got between that dog and mine and yelled at it, which slowed him down. He then started to circle around me to get to my dog, and he got a chance to "say hello to my little friend."
While he contemplated his next move, the owner came out all apologetic and, of course, his dog just headed back home. It was over before the owner got there. When he asked if I was o.k., I happily answered, "Oh, yeah!" I collapsed my little friend and we went on our way, and I kept thinking, that was a
damn good investment.
YMMV. Please check your local laws before carrying one of these.

I was under the impression that any collapsible baton was illegal for a civilian to own in California.

If I thought I needed a bazooka to keep me and mine safe I'd have one, feel good laws be damned

. . . collapsible baton was illegal for a civilian to own in California.
Hence, my ending statement. In CA, you need a CCW permit or an attitude like Dennis "Better to beg forgiveness than ask permission" Jones.

I am surprised that California still allows us to own flashlights and baseball bats. After all, they could be dangerous.

If I recall correctly STATE Law in California (I remember looking it up for another forum member), a Collapsable Baton is perfectly legal, provided it is not carried concealed.
Carried openly, it's kosher.
Unless prohibited by your specific county or city ordinances.
I'll double check to be sure, but I believe that was the deal.

I read that Calif. is considering banning certain colored cars, such as black. Apparently black cars are considered energy pigs.
Holy cow!

Here, batons are okay if they are not concealed. Pepper spray is fine too. No permit necessary.

I was informed the black car potential ban is bogus. Even Rush got it wrong so I don't feel too bad.
