I went to Petsmart today to see if they had a clicker because I'm going to start some marker training. I didn't see any so I asked a worker. She showed me where they were and was all - So, are you going to sign up for our dog training class? I politely told her no, that I would be doing it on my own because I didn't want to train her around other dogs. She goes on to tell me that she had trained for 20 years and blah blah blah...and her dog (who was in a stroller while she was saying this) had won an agility title....blah blah..obedience title...blah blah blah. I thanked her for helping me and went on my way to the checkout line. Of course my checker had a 'certified trainer' shirt on too. She saw my cliker and too started asking me about if I was going to train, what I was going to train, about taking classes, ect. I again, politely declined but was thinking -- dang! Can't I just buy this clicker without being pitched for classes by everyone in the store! Sheesh. On the positive -- Izzy is doing great. She is doing sooo much better in the crate. If she's in there she just watches us and keeps quite. I've been taking her out (on leash of course!) a few times a day and letting her sit by me. Right now she is laying right by my feet and being a very good girl! YAY! So far everything seems to be working just as this website said it would! As if I had any doubt.
I'm married to Chris and have 3 kids, Allison, Ethan, and my new dog Izzy!
The trainers are paid commission to get people into their classes. There's also HUGE pressure from the higher-ups to sell classes. And, with clicker in hand, you were a prime target. So don't hate on the trainers TOO much. They're just doing what they're told =)
