Yesterday, my niece had Gabbie our 13 week old boxer outside to go potty. When she came in she started yelling for me b/c Gabbie had to ticks on her. One was on her and the other started digging in. I got them both off with no problem.
Here is my dilema....I use the expensive frontline topical that is supposed to prevent ticks and flees. Apparently, it doesn't keep ticks away. Has this happened to anyone on here? Does anyone know of something more effective? I am surrounded by woods and whitetail deer, so keeping her out of tick territory isn't much of an option.

I have used Frontline before on my GSD and Lab, it was ok, but didn't do the job as effectively as I would have liked. I have also used Bio-Spot spot on and my Lab had a reaction to it-he was lethargic and wouldn't eat(not normal for him), but drank a lot of water, within 48hrs he was better, but I won't use it again.
I have used Zodiac on 2 of my 3 dogs before and I really liked it. The only reason I used the other two Tick repellants was because I couldn't remember what it was that I had used before-I have a bad short term memory sometimes. Zodiac really worked. We were out in the forest in the Big Horn mtns during prime tick season, and Shaed and Otto were running all over in the tall grass. After the first night, in the morning when they came out of their crates I saw a bunch of ticks on the bottom of their crates. I turned the crates upside down to get them out and they were all dead and I did a thorough check over both and not one tick was attached.
Funny thing is, my hubby went turkey hunting just a few days ago and came home with 15 ticks on him, some starting to attach themselves, and I had gone to the vet in Bismarck for checkups for all my dogs, then went to Petsmart for tick stuff and they were completely out of the 60lbs+ formula for Zodiac-so I'm not the only one that knows/thinks it works in my area.

I don't think Frontline is designed to "keep ticks away" - it is designed to kill them after they are on the dog. So yes, you will see ticks occasionally, but they don't normally survive.
I've already noticed a HUGE tick problem this season!! YIKES!

I did see some dead ticks with Frontline, but I saw more live ones and some that had attatched themselves and put up a fight to be pulled off. This is just my experience with it. Everyone has their favorite.

Can't get frontline up here, but CAN get Zodiac. What product did you use? (collar, drops, etc) I've been using the collars, but I hate the smell. However, I hate the smell of the collars less than the mess of the drops.
Their flea shampoo works great.

I used the Zodiac drops on my dogs. Easy and don't have to smell or touch the collars (I hate those things!). And my dogs don't care for being bathed-didn't do to bad the other day, but still only get baths as needed (when they start to stink, it's time

BTW I know this is an old thread but I have two hairless dogs and you can't put anything on them anyways. So I spray their clothes with Avon tick repellent and it has worked great. Next time I will try putting a bandanna on them with the spray on and see what it does. I tried a four legged outfit and it worked, then I tried a tank top and it worked, so next time the bandanna.
