Lucy has been just having fun in the woods right now. We found deer scrapes, coon trees, possum dens, a skunk den (extremely polite skunk, no spraying), and many more fun things.
But, I have noticed that she "foams" at her lower lip (flews?). Her lower lip (?) are funny in that it curls OVER her lower teeth, so I can't tell if she just foams because she is excited, thirsty, or what. It really isn't drool. Don't recall coon dogs or any other dog I owned doing this.
So, should I be worried? I do carry water, but I don't want to make her sick. Other than that, she is a blast in the woods! I found areas in the woods I haven't been through in 25 years.

Foam or frothing in my dog usually means he's found an extemely enticing scent...like if a female in heat has been through the area, but he'll do it when he scents other critters, too.
I find Luc foams when it's hot out or we're doing something higher output, so I think it is a sign in some dogs that they are thirsty/time for water.
I have my regular watering schedule for him on hikes, backpacks, and runs, and I'll vary it based on weather or if I see signs of exertion like a bit of foam at the edges of his mouth.
Ah...so, spittle is a sign of excitement which can make them thirsty, or a sign of thirst. Either way, I can water her, just not a lot if we are going to continue exploring.
PS...I found that she will let me peek at her teeth and lift her paws for inspection if she gets rewarded by exploring. So now, no peekie, so seekie.
