This is kind of scary, I used to feed my dogs Nutro and NutroMax. The breeder I got Shaed from actually recommended it and we went with it, until we switched to raw. But I would have never put tow and two together; Shaed would throw up (mostly bile) when she'd eat the food, not all the time, but more often than we liked and we always wondered what was wrong-duh. I NEVER would have thought it was as bad as it is. I know that anything other than a natural/raw diet isn't good for dogs, but as a new owner (3 years ago) I didn't know any better.
Now I have to tell my mom to change her dogs food, maybe to EVO at the very least. And I feel obligated to let Shaed's breeder know that the food, they may possibly still be feeding, is bad. EEK!

That report is completely inaccurate. I have contacted the FDA and NUTRO. There is no investigation of any kind directed at NUTRO by the FDA. You can go to the FDA website and check the link of current investigations and recalls. I feed 45 working dogs NUTRO. That report was sent to me by someone that knows what I feed. Of course I was initially concerned and followed it up immediately my vendor, NUTRO and the FDA. The report is false.

David, I'm not disputing what you've been told.
The report, however clearly outlines that both Nutro and the FDA were (as you said) denying the investigation, until a Freedom of Information Act Request was filed.
I'm not saying the report is right or you are wrong.
IF the report is correct, however, it would make sense that you were told the opposite of the author.
Then again, this could be one of those, "Hey, I'm a super secret government assassin, but I can't prove it because it's classified."

Take it worth a grain of salt.

Consumer Affairs.com is nothing but a blog. It's not part of the noted Consumer Reports. The response to the freedom of information act was; we don't comment on on-going investigations. They Consumer Affairs made the conclusion an investigation must be on-going. While I am as suspicious as the next person, perhaps even more so because of age, past experiences and some knowledge myself of how our great government works, I'm pretty confident in what both the FDA and Nutro told me. Of course I'll keep my eye on it. I buy Nutro by the pallet (50 bags), delivered every 30 to 40 days. All, except a couple of our geriatric dogs are on it. While at any given time a high drive working dog can develop loose stool because of stress, heat and hard work, I've seen no problems with the dogs we have. I don't know why FDA would deny an investigation of Nutro is underway, if in fact one was ongoing. What could they possibly gain. I explained to them the number and types of dogs and why I was so concerned. The cost of training, loss of dogs notwithstanding, the loss of coverage would devasting. They assured me, no investigation was underway. While I'm not going to just let it die, I'm certainly more relaxed about the situation than when I first read the story.

If we ever meet we can exchange the secret handshake.

Yes, all are alive, well and working. I'm currently doing our annual evals, so not only am I seeing them in person, I'm watching them work. They look good, they are working good and so far, all have passed the evaluations. I'm more than halfway through.
