When a neighbor is threatening to poision your dog and put poision on her lawn for all other animals.
What should you do?
I feel if I go to the police it will just increase her wanting to get to my dog, but what about all the other owners of dogs in the neighborhood?
I'm afraid if I warn them she might say I'm harrassing her and I'm making it up.
And I really hate bothering the police with this animal issue.
I'm very upset about this issue and want to keep a level head....please help.
Thanks

Your neighbor wants to poison your dog? Has he/she said this to you? I'm no cop, but you need to report her to animal control or the ASPCA. Make sure that the police, animal control, or whoever make a report of your complaint. Ask for the report number or any other kind of verification that they did it. You may need this if something bad does happen.
You should also start checking your yard before you let your dogs out, you never know with these kind of assholes.
I'd tell them that if I find my dog poisoned that they will find their house burned to the ground. Or even better, that you'll introduce them to a shallow grave somewhere real remote . . .Make them think you are more crazy than they are. . . . JUST KIDDING- don't do that

This was said to my husband yesterday while he was walking the dog.
Words were exchanged and the police were called she(who admitted to starting the fight and yelling at my husband) wanted to press charges against him.
It wasn't mentioned to the police yesterday and that's why I don't know if I should call them back.
I am going to Home Depot today to redo the backyard so it will be easier to detect if something was done.
I live in a townhouse with private fenced yards so the yard is small and mostly patio.
I am taking Gus in my car to the forest preserve so we can pratice our leash training there.
It just ticks me off that this Old Bag thinks she can threaten us and not have us verbally slam her back.
Another thing, I'm carrying a taperecord with me so if this happens again I can prove what was actually said.
Thanks VanCamp

Why does this crotchety old bag want to poison your dog? Does she hate animals that bad? I would go to the police. I had kids teasing my dog once to the point of throwing things at him and trying to hit him. I called and made a report so that if they were bitten I at least had that on record. Again the Dog Law book is excellent about things like this. Ed sells it. Tell the police the more you thought about it the more you realized you needed to make a report on the threats against your dog and other animals as well.

it is so sad when your animals are not even safe in their own yard. I always check the yard when my dogs go out. No one has made threaths but I am cautious and have made it a routine thing. I also always supervise my dogs when they are out and playing in the yard. I also have taught my dogs the command of leaving it. My GSD will now reliably drop whatever he has picked up, no matter what it is. I also put a piece of food on the ground, the moment he starts sniffing it I give him the leave it command. I have one K9 living behind me and one across the street. One of the officers had his K9 poisoned several years ago. I learned the leave it command from him. He also teaches the dog food refusal from all but family members. I have considered teaching that as well. Like i said there have been no threats to my dogs but I would prefer to take precautions

I would document the threat in case a pattern develops, but given the fact that this is your neighbor, I would go the extra mile to make peace. If my dog escaped and pissed on the neighbors lawn. I would assume that the lawn is as important to them as my dog is to me. Unless your planning on moving soon (and she could become a huge disclosure problem to potential buyers, i.e. nutcase lives next to my unit and harrasses for no reason)I would go beyond what a judge would consider fair and reasonable compensation for any damages. Who knows, the Old Bag could wind up dog sitting for you some day. Stranger things have happened....

At first I thought your dog was getting out of your yard. Now after rereading the post, it appears that she is just threatening you guys for walking by her property. Is there a barking issue? What is her gripe?

Maybe I am the only one that DIDN'T miss this BUT.....
When a neighbor is threatening to poision your dog and put poision on her lawn for all other animals. I am not saying that I think she has a right to threaten you but the obvious thing would be to keep your dog out of her yard to begin with. From what you typed here she didn't JUST say she was out to kill YOUR dog, she wants ALL animals out of HER yard.
I also have to question why she doesn't like your dog. Do you leave the dog outside? Is it a possible barking issue? You need to be a responsible dog owner and try to resolve whatever is causing the problem. If it is barking, look into a no bark collar. If you are letting your dog loose then you are asking for trouble in the first place. Do you make an effort to ALWAYS clean up after your dog? These simple things make for nicer neighbors.

I contacted the police and they said the officer that took the report yesterday comes on at 2 o so I can talk to him about this.
I also talked to my other neighbor who is friends with the old bag.
As it turns out, the old bag had been bitching about everyones dog taking a pee and crapping on her lawn. Funny, we're the only ones who go to extra lengths to make sure he goes in our yard and if he is at one of the parks we pick up after him.
So it looks like when she saw my dog on her lawn that was the last straw and she went nuts, maybe she said some things she didn't mean to say.
And let me clarify where my dog was.
My husband was on the street or alley way and it was the strip of grass between the road and sidewalk. So it's not like the dog was at the front door with his leg up.
Hopefully this will blow over...at least I feel a little bit better.
Thanks Guys!

It seems to me that you, by the determination of your bitchy neighbor, are guilty by association. Perhaps there is an errant dog owner or two in your development; by virtue of having a new puppy, you, too, are guilty, in her assesment. That is, as we used to say, UN-SAT. This is an unreasonalble assumption on her part.
In having threatened to poison her own lawn, could you be lucky enough to have her consume some herself?
Seriously, there is a bit of a problem here, especially for your case Officer. Has "the Old Bag" threatened either you or your husband with bodily harm or death? Is she old and infirm in addtion to being a cantancerous pain in the ass? She obviously has you concerned enough to re do your backyard. If either is the case,to have her charged with either " issuing terroristic threats ( yes, really)" or "threatening and indimidating" is not realistic from a law enforcement point of view. She has to fit several criteria, some of which are: a state of mental culpability, means, opportunity, motive and ability. Hypothetically speaking, Heaven forbit Gus should ingest and fall victim to the injestion of the poison she sets out, you will have to prove a few things: one, by no fault of yours was Gus introduced to the poison. She, with either malice or lack of forethought, introduced Gus to said poison.
I am NOT an authority on animal complaints; I do not handle these kinds of calls. Frankly, there aren't many calls like this on the Interstate and I have almost ZERO experience with them. If I was in a position to have to apply Arizona law to this, I would have to say it is civil; there is no crime. Unfortunately, the law looks at our beloved pets and companions, in this instance, as property or livestock.
Hope this helps, I hope to convey some information; i do not and can not dispense legal advise.
