Part of the canine health requirements for the SAR group I am joining requires all the dogs to have 6 in 1 vaccinations that include distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, adenovirus, and parainfluenza.
Anyone have any thoughts on these different ones, and a timeline that they should be given in?
I definitely plan on doing parvo and distemper, but wasn't real sure about the others.
I was told by my Vet that manufacturers are no longer selling just straight distemper and parvo. The only way you can get those too is with the 6 in 1. I think it is a matter of public demand. There are so few who only want those two that they just quit selling them.
Not sure why your vet would tell you that, but you can buy the vaccines individually. The biggest problem I have found is that I only found one place that sold JUST the one vaccine at a time. Most sold them in packs of ten or twenty five.
I chose not to vaccinate at all for any of my dogs, including the puppy. But if I had, it would have only been for the two listed here.
As to the need for shots to join the SAR team, that is between you and them. if you feel very strongly about the vaccines, then see if they will accept a titer for the vaccines you don't want to give...
FWIW, parvo & distemper vaccinations are generally good for the lifetime of the dog. There was a rather widely distributed report that listed immunitity durations for the various vaccinations. Don't have time to find it just now.
Many of the vaccines are sold as x-way combinations. But, you can still find the single dose or just parvo/distemper versions.
The economic issue for the vet is that most customers will take the 6-way vaccine instead of the single disease one. Then, the vet is stuck with an expiring product that may have had only one or two doses pulled from the bottle.

Your vet is not telling you the truth.
I don't know how else to say it. I will find them in ten seconds.

OK, I exaggerated about the 10 seconds. But I'm not a vet; the vet could certainly have found them in 10 seconds if I could find all these in 5 minutes.
I did a little reading about a week ago and found that the leptospirosis vaccine can actually have more ill affects than if you didn't give it.
I had my vet tell me that we should give Otto this vaccine if he's a hunting dog-we had just found out he had hypothyroidism. I told her I'd talk to my hubby first, and I posted here and asked about it. The way dogs catch it is through coming in contact with an infected animal or water that has been contaminated by the infected animals urine. We chose not to get the vaccine, among all the other vaccines you noted that the SAR team requires you to give your dog.
I would talk to the SAR team, only if you are one that doesn't want to overvaccinate.
I want to do as minimal vaccinating as possible, but I also understand the team has legal responsibilites to uphold.
I sent an email to the team leader telling her I was uncomfortable with giving some of the vaccines and listed them. I also asked if titers could be substituted, and if she could give me any reasons as to why some of the vaccines were mandatory.
I know how uptodate everyone here stays on medical issues, and figured I'd ask your all's thoughts first.
