Ok, I need a little advice before I call the vet tomorrow.
Just noticed a red area on Otto's scrotum. I immediately checked the rest of his belly area. Red spots all over his belly area. Then went on to check Lily and Shaed's bellies and sure enough, red spots!
The only thing I can think of is that they got it from swimming in the lake about 6 miles out of town-we took them there yesterday and I didn't notice anything yesterday and I'm pretty sure that there's nothing in my yard.
Besides the red spots, there's nothing else that I've noticed-no change in behavior, eating, nothing.
Any ideas on what it could be, I'm going to do a quick search online, but anything to help is greatly appreciated!
I checked last night and only came up with two different possibilities, both of which I don't think-but don't know, are the reason.
The first was ringworm-not ringworm, I've had and seen ringworm before on dogs. This is not it.
The other was black fly or gnat bites.
Like I said, I don't think these are it-the bites may be, but could it possibly be from swimming in the water? This lake was man-made by a coal company, people who fish and hunt use the lake. My hubby had said that the road to it was closed because of water on the road (it had flooded when we had flooding going on).
Please, anyone know what this could be and if I should call the vet or wait and watch it first. I have to drive down to Bismarck today to pick up dog food and will be gone for at least 3-4 hours and we'll be taking off within 2 hour (got to get ready and Kayde ready). Thanks.
ok, I just checked my dogs before I fed them-should've checked them before I reposted, but I was eager to see what others here had to say. The spots are pretty much gone now.
I may have overreacted, but I get nervous since they are like my kids and I've never seen anything like that on them before.
OK, Lily has what appears to be bug bites-LOTS of bug bites on her belly. They are red and small, almost look like an irritated zit. I wonder if this is from ants, which are all over my backyard (yard is ripped up from the dogs and we have yet to get new grass planted and their potty area set up). She likes to lay in the grass/dirt outside. I'm pretty sure it's not ticks (or fleas) because all of the dogs have gotten a dose of Frontline a couple weeks ago.
Any ideas on what I could do until I get the yard and the potty area set up? I'm not sure about ant pellets, because I don't want my dogs trying to eat it. Any help/advice would be great.

dogs (especially puppies and younger dogs) can get something called pyoderma, which is a bacterial infection (staph, I think) that is not unlike acne on a teenager's face--it presents as pustules on the skin.
Google pyoderma and you'll turn up more info, and pictures to see if this matches what you're seeing. If so, a mild case can be treated topically, a more severe case usually gets a course of oral antibiotics.

Yep, pyoderma does look exactly like pimples or bug bites. If there's a question about what this is, I'd have a vet look at it. IME, if this is pyoderma, it is something you want to nip-in-the-bud early...before it gets worse and Lily is biting and scratching.
