I wish you could groom them too!!! I get sick of it, I have three. Yeah this is my first parti (multi-colored) they are recognized by the UKC. She can still compete in AKC everything but conformation. I think white shepherds get a bad rap, (I'm not a shepherd person so you guys can educate me) But the the partis are the foundation of the poodle line. They all started out as partis and hunting dogs. The solid colors gained popularity and they eventually tried to weed out the partis and create all solid lines. UKC still classifies them as gun dogs, not non-sporting dogs like AKC poodles. They still retain a lot of the hunting drives. She's very different from my other standards. She carries her toys like a retreiver and is smarter and more focused than my AKC champion line dogs.
The partis have hardier, thicker bodies, more like gun dogs and they are inter-bred with solid AKCs to try and thin them out and create an AKC look with the UKC colors.
I want to breed her for really good conformation and health (of course) but I also want to retain the working aspect of the poodle, even if it's not hunting, as I am not a hunter, I want dogs that can do more than prance around in a circle...
The great think about the standards is they are less maintenance than a lab (lower energy level, lower exercise requirement) but they still are very soft mouthed, make good retreivers and are very patient with kids.
