Yote seems to have a flea allergy and despite the DE, using advantage on all dogs and cats and spraying the yard we still have some fleas.
I bathed Nico this morning in the bathtub. She is easy peasy and used to getting baths so it was no big deal to get her done. I gave her a Capstar too to make sure they are dead.
He needs a bath both for the fleas and/or soothe his skin.
Should I use a medicated skin shampoo and then a flea spray, or a flea shampoo and then a soothing skin spray??

Medicated shampoo and then flea spray.
Any shampoo will kill fleas if left on for a few min. Besides, the residue left on the skin with the flea shampoo will not do much past a day or so, but can cause skin irritation that can last for weeks, especially on a sensitive dog.
AND, (if that wasn't enough) most of the time those conditioning sprays don't make it down to the skin. It is especially difficult on thick coated breeds, like huskies.

Thanks
Most of the irritation is on his belly and the inside of his thighs so it will be slightly easier to monitor and treat.
Wish me luck!
He hasn't had a bath in a really long time and it should be interesting!!

LB's grooming rake helps get shampoos and conditioners down to the skin... I find it works much better than using my fingers.

I have a nubby rubber thing made by kong that I use to get the shampoo and conditioner down deep into the skin, it makes a huge difference in the final results, and how much loose dead hair comes out during baths.
I really should wash Yote more often, but he is self cleaning with his teflon fur so I haven't had to do it and have been putting it off.
Loki has had one bath his entire life Maybe I should work on that too.
Nico gets them weekly sometimes, and even daily with clear water when she is bad.
My plan is to hook Yote to the corner post of the porch with a short lead, that way he can't go anywhere.
He does like water, but in my experience liking water and swimming doesn't translate to love of baths!

Oh yeah! Those really help get that shampoo in to the skin. I use them on the horses and both dogs. I too have the nubby thingy made by Kong. The small ones feel good for rubbing in lotion on your back too... (new and for exclusive use :grin
I was talking about those spray on conditioner. Even on my fairly short haired dogs, unless I really drench them, it rarely even touches the skin.
Since the irritation is on his undercarriage, that will make the world of difference!
Don't forget the rain coat and a camera!!!

Yeah, True decided pretty quickly that weekly baths in the tub were not to his liking so we built an outdoor shower for him. Hot and cold water and one of those adjustable shower heads so he gets a little massage along with the bath...lol.
The next people who live here are going to wonder about the very short person who enjoyed showering outside.

I would love to come back as one of your dogs Sarah!
Even I have to share my shower...
Now I want my own, custom built with bubble jets... and rain shower head fixture...and those streams that spray you from all directions...
Are you taking notes? 'Cause when I come back this is what I will be expecting...

I will be wearing a bathing suit....so there will be no pictures!!!!
I just hope he ends up with only a flea allergy.
After the nightmare we have been through with Nico and her skin problems I shudder to think of going through it all again.

Noted! You can be a member of my pack any time.
Jenn...DVM Products (think that's the name) makes Relief Shampoo and Conditioner. The big box and speciality pet stores may carry it and most vets carry it. Both are soothing, itch-relieving, oatmeal-based products. The conditioner is rinse out OR leave-in and can be applied to wet or dry fur. Won't do much for fleas but it was recommended to me to help itchy skin on non-bath days.
