This may seem like a stupid question but after coming across this website, it has opened my eyes to vaccinosis and feeding raw. We actually do this at home for our human family, so why i hadn't thought about it for our pets I will never know. But my question is "What is the most natural solution for worming your puppy and then adult dogs? What is the protocol used at Leerburg for worming? I have a 3 month old GSD.

How about dropping off a fecal at the vet's and checking for worm evidence?

This is what I do, too. No "just in case" worming.
I want to see sumpthin' before any worming is done.

If the fecal is positive, do you use the medicine at the vet or is there a natural/homeopathic solution? I am not able to find a vet in my area who will support the raw or no vaccine stand so I am pretty much just searching the internet and going at it on my own.

The only one that I know of is Para Clear, sold here at LB:
http://leerburg.com/56.htm
I have yet to use it for this purpose, but it says that it has been used for a very long time to treat livestock for worms.
I have used it in our yard to kill off fire ants. It is a great product, and very safe to use.

I've heard of people using diatomaceous earth and really liking it.
Never used it, and I do not know a thing about it, or what worms it is capable of taking care of.
Somebody?

Not sure what worms exactly, however, it does say that it works on a variety of parasites and worms:
Food grade diatomaceous earth has been used for at least two decades as a natural wormer for livestock.. To be most effective, food grade diatomaceous earth must be fed long enough to catch all newly hatching eggs or cycling of the worms. A minimum of 60 days is suggested Food grade diatomaceous earth works in a purely physical/mechanical manner, not ‘chemical’ and thus has no chemical toxicity. Best yet, parasites don’t build up a tolerance/immunity to its chemical reaction, so rotation of wormers is unnecessary.
Daily recommended food grade diatomaceous earth feeding rates:
Kittens - 1/2 teaspoon
Cats - 1 teaspoon
Puppies - 1/2 to 1 tsp.
Dogs under 35 lbs. - 1 teaspoon
Dogs over 35 lbs. - 1 tablespoon
Dogs over 100 lbs. - 2 tablespoons
Not sure if this helps, but I would give it a try if you do indeed have worms, as it is totally non toxic and chemical free.
It is a personal choice, but for me, one well worth a try, because the less chemicals the better for a optimal healthy immune system.

Just want to throw my experience in. I have a pup that has had tons of problems with worms. He'd react so badly that switching to raw was a horrible experience for the whole family. He was wormed twice and each time he'd get them again, more putrid, wormy stools and groaning in his crate.
The last time we wormed him we decided to try diatomaceous earth because he just kept getting them over and over despite us trying to clean the environment..must be the mud in the backyard and the rainy, humid weather. Could have also been during our walks, people leave their dogs piles all along the sidewalks here and contact happens alot.
Anyway..we got into the habit of including this with every meal and have had not a single episode. Stools clean.

It jumped out at me too, but I was too rushed to post.
But yes, I do want to say that worms are not at all a raw feeding thing.
Fleas are a major source; a dog accidentally swallows an infected flea and worms hatch in the intestines. Worms come from infected dogs' feces, too, in your own backyard or parks or the yard at the vet's office. Whipworm and roundworm eggs can stay viable for years. Hookworm larvae can live and multiply in the dirt.
Maybe Heather was worried that any reaction to raw feeding might be masked by malady from worms .... ?
There is no connection, though, aside from the roadkill/tapeworm one (which really has nothing to do with what I mean when I say raw feeding).
