I have a 5 mo. old GSD Female and I need to see if anyone has had these problems. First is her overshot jaw, I had posted this once before and at the time was greatful for all the reponses, however we have been watching her jaw and we have now noticed that her bottom teeth are putting dents in the roof of her mouth. I have read that the overshot jaw can grow out, but I wanted to see if anyone knows if this will hurt her later if it does not grow out. Right now her bottom jaw is about 3/8" shorter.
The second issue is last Sunday evening our little girl started peeing frequently, we took her to the vet we thought that she might have a bladder infection, we had a very bad experience, the vet told us that he thought she might have a bladder infection and decided to treat her for one, even though he did not take a urine sample. He have her a shot of penicellin and sent us home with another antibiotic (ciproflaxcin). Us not being a vet trusted this dumb ass and started her on the antibiotic that night. About 20 min. after we gave it to her, her face swelled up and we almost lost her. Before we rushed to the hospital, we gave her two benadryl. The Emergency vet told us that this probably saved her life. This vet could not belive he gave her this antibiotic, he told us that this is one of the most powerful antibiotics there is and that it should have only been used if nothing else was working. He went on to tell us about the horrible effects of the this drug. I have never been so mad and scard in my life. Anyway we had this new vet do a whole blood panel to make sure there was no lasting issues. She finally is back to normal, but last night after my husband mowed the lawn, she started this peeing thing again. We know there is nothing wrong with her, but we don't know why she is doing this. Has anyone heard of this before?

The 2nd time she did it you had mown the lawn.
The 1st time - had there been any changes to the garden?
She might be scentmarking, some bitches do that.
Alterntively had anything been changed with your lifestyle? New baby / lodger / walking schedule / air-con broken?
The first time she did this we had just cut the grass, we have not had any new changes, she was fine after the scare and just started again last night. and yes the second vet did a urine and it was normal.

Edit reason: Nevermind on the first few questions. I had to do something and left the computer. Didn't refresh the page to see that Lynne had already asked.

Besides the details that Michael asks, I would like to hear what tests were run on the urine spec (from the vet bill).
"yes the second vet did a urine and it was normal" does not necessarily mean that a culture was done. Did the second vet know that obscuring antibiotics had been given with no urinalysis or culture run?

I just wanted to add that giving ciproflaxcin for a "maybe UTI" with no urinalysis, no culture, and no history of repeated life-threatening infections was worth far more than never going to that vet again and telling him why your money will never touch his wallet again; it's worth a report to whatever state board he is licensed by. JMO.

I am so sorry that happened to you.
I know nothing of the antibiotic, but coming from you, I have to take it that this was a serious no-no. Pretty bad stuff?
Yes he did, we had to take her back to him three days later because she was just not acting normal. Last night she was squating every couple of mins. Her weight has not changed she is about 48 lbs. She still eats like a horse, and we feed her Inova large breed puppy with a probiotic.
