I posted a topic about my male rottweiler in fear biters and shy dogs several months ago. He is now 10 months old and I am still taking him everywhere with us, hiking and camping and he does great around people, haven't been letting people pet him, although not very many people offer to pet him =) We are currently enrolled in a intro. to competitive obedience class. We had some people over this weekend and when my brother in law showed up of course Riddick barked at him, I told him to be quiet, which he did and then my idiotic brother in law kept trying to get Riddick to come to him by slapping his leg and saying repeatedly "come here, come here" all the while Riddick is standing there barking at him. I told him to just leave him alone and then I took Riddick outside. My brother in law comes outside shortly after that incident and Riddick goes up to him and smells him, brother in law reaches to pet him and he is still ducking away and barking. Then my husbands uncle shows up, Riddick barks, I then tell him Quiet, and the uncle does the correct thing and ignores him, then another male family member shows up Riddick is laying down at my feet, he walks right up to Riddick and pets him on the head and Riddick accepts the petting, but 30 minutes later he was playing tug of war with him (which may not be a good idea, just let me know if its not) and he wouldn't let him touch him. What is going on? This dog has me so confused. As a side note, when everyone was sitting outside and ignoring Riddick, he was very aloof with everyone, he could careless. Also he was playing fetch with people that he wouldn't let pet him, he just won't let them touch him. All that leads to this question, in competitive obedience he will have to do the stand for exam, how am I going to get Riddick to accept touching by a stranger? I also would like to show him, that won't happen if I can't get him to allow touching. Any advice anyone has to offer would be great or any insight to what could be going on with him.
