I am located in the United States and breed/raise Golden Retrievers. I recently received a very disturbing call from the owner of one of my pups. According to this owner his Vet noticed a possible "gait" problem when the puppy was brought in for a regular check up. (This puppy has no lameness at this time, plays normally and has normal muscle tone in the hind legs.) According to the owner, the vet then did hip x-rays and determined this 17 week old puppy has severe hip dysplasia in both hips. A full hip replacement was recommended which I've never heard of at this young age. They have sent me a digital image of the x-ray along with the radiology report. I'm currently waiting for my vet to return from vacation but would love to get other opinions. The Sire and Dam both have OFA'd good hips. I've never dealt with dysplasia and am devastated at this news. Is there anyone willing to take a look or offer some advice.
Thank you for the help. I uploaded the image to photobucket. It was easier than I thought. I think I did it correctly..anyway. Have I successfully linked it?
All I can see is that the right hip looks worse than the left... I am no good at these x-rays or knowing what a 12 week old puppy should look like... Now we need to wait for someone who knows what they are looking at thinks...
Carrie, did you read Ed's e-book on hip x-rays?
I'll link you... http://leerburg.com/pdf/hipplacementforxrays.pdf
You might consider pm'ing Ed or Cindy to have a look at your x-ray also...
