Just curious how many on here have Bouvs and if you work them.. I have a female from mostly show lines tha I have been working a little in PP. I wish I could find a trainer closer to us.. I have not been working her much because of the 3 hour drive. I live in northeastern VT. She is 2 1/2 and has almost finished her AKC Ch. She also is OFA excellent and normal elbows. Her Cerf and Cardiac will be done at the bouvier National specialty which is being held in VT this year (lucky me :grin.. Just curious who may be out there...
My extended family has had Bouviers since the 60s. My aunt currently has a working line dog, but he is a pet. She says she really sees the difference between him and her previous showline dog; he is much more intense.
Sounds like you have a very nice dog. By PP do you mean Schutzhund? How does she like the work?
Welcome Jackie!
I don't have a Bouv, but I AM originally from Montpelier (just moved away 2 years ago)... so I just thought I'd give a shout out to a fellow VTer.
How excellent that the Bouvier National Specialty is happening in quiet little VT this year (Burlington?) - what a treat! Hope your girl does great at the show.
Thank you for the welcome.. "Karli" loves the work and is a very prey driven dog.We currently live in Waterford VT.. between St. Johnsbury VT and Littleton NH...
I am very excited about the specialty in vermont a the Champlain valley expo center..
If anyone knows any good non breed bias trainers in VT/NH the closer the better I would love suggestions..
I don't have a Bouv either, but "hello" from South Burlington I used to be from the "Kingdom"...I grew up in Derby Line, and lived in Lyndonville briefly.
Very exciting about the specialty at the Expo. I've been to a few great dressage shows there but only one dog show thus far. It's only about 15 minutes from home for me now.
I'm not familiar with any current PP trainers, but I PM'd you with the name of a police chief who may be able to hook you up. He's a little hard to reach but he's a good guy. Unfortunately I knew of only a couple of people locally, and they aren't training any more. The Chief will know many more trainers, I'm sure.
Hi from Iowa - we have 4 Bouviers - Our youngest is almost 2 and has her AKC/UKC Championships.
Sorry I didn't see this until today!! Also sorry we didn't make it to Nationals this year - a tad too far for us.
All of ours are finished Champions - 2 neutered males 8 & 8-1/2, 1 intact male 5 and then our girl, who comes into heat every 4 flippin' months!!! But she has really cute panties made just for Bouviers when she is in season.....smiling..!
Patricia,
I just saw your post.. We are considering moving to the southwestern corner of MN next summer.... My girl finished in Nov.. We went to the National but just one day for the health clinics.. Even with it so close I couldn't get more than the one day...
I am now trying to figure out who I may possibly breed my girl to... Its really tough trying to figure it out....
I am very envious of your girl.......OFA hips excellent - WOW congratulations!! And big congrats on her Championship as well. Who is she out of?
We have pretty good people out this way and some nice males as well! We don't have high numbers BUT some nice Bouvs and it takes less count for Majors.
It is very tough deciding on who to breed too and the trust factor involved. My last litter of pups were Golden Retrievers and that was in 1980.....We have sired 2 litters but even that I worry sooo much of how they will develop mentally & physically.
If you move out this way I hope we will be able to meet. There are shows in MN, SD, NE & IA for you.
Do you feed the raw diet?? This is a great sight for all sorts of info!! It wasn't until December that I got my courage up to join the forum......so glad I did!
