Hi everyone, I have a white german sherpherd that is just a year old. I have an issue with him jumping on me that I'm working on daily to correct...not easy as hes very head strong. What I am wondering is why he does this?
so far I've done the get down and sit.....works for a min, I've tryed the squeezing the front paws.....he hates it and it only makes him jump even more...now I'm on the "off" and sit......it works more than the rest...I'm feeling its a play thing with him, I was just wanting others opinion, on other forums some think its a pack thing, meaning he thinks hes over me..thanks for your opinion

I say 'OFF' once, turn my back to her and tuck my hands under my arms. (in a harumph kind of way). It works for me the majority of the time, she gives me a look and walks away looking for something else to pounce on--like a chew toy. When she is really ramped up and excited and she tries another jump up on my back this time usually to engage me, I calmly walk away and look out a window or into another room of the house. Really ignoring her. It is definitely phasing out the behavior, but I am also still working on it--my white GSD is only 8 months old still.
gonna question the downside to squeezing the paws, eventualy you'll have to trim nails or remove thorns from the paws as well as vet visits. what I've seen work and done myself was tuck my hands in my armpits and turn away from the dog in a calm manner. the dog learns that he gets nothing for jumping on the owner. I would try Mike A's approach if the shunning technique doesn't work
