I had a question about my family dog who i rescued a few years ago. My girlfriend whom i live with helps me take care our dogs but i am the trainer and primary handler for both of them. My Doberman who is working blood lines and in a protection program i do all the training and that's a firm rule, but with Dez our family dog i let my girlfriend teach her fun tricks from a book 101 Dog Tricks.I know this goes against the one trainer per dog rule. So far it hasn't caused any problems that I'm aware of, and they both really enjoy it. its all marker training and done on a flat collar, any correction are done on my watch.
Does anybody see a problem that might come from this? any input would be appreciated.
Personally, I see no problem with that at all. I do 99% of the training with my jacks and I am the only person that trials my little female. But my hubby likes to teach tricks, so he's taught her a few great ones, that I find useful additions to her training (I'll use some for warms ups before runs, attention games etc.). The more things a dog knows the better, I say, and I haven't found this detrimental to any of her training, competing or to our bond.
