I am watchin the 1999 WPO Chanpionships as I type. My question is why have these dogs have their head in front of you when you are walking or running? The guy I'm watching now almost trips over the dog. I've never done this in the past. What is the reason for it today?

it's a demonstration of a dogs ability to focus on the handler, also makes the turns look better, dog isn't lagging behind or surging. It's sport.
OK....so what you are saying is this is only done during competition? Am I to understand that in actual police work, the dog wouldn't be doing this? If this is true, how would you stop the dog from doing this.
They're pretty smart, the dogs that is, they learn when it's field time and street time. My dog has two heals, one for trials and one for strolls in the park and stores
Interesting. I never thought about two heals. I have a 7 month old GDS. Mostly black, some tan on the legs. I purchased her at 12 weeks from a gentlemen that works with Schutzhund dogs. I am amazed at how smart she is. I owned GDS's about 40 years ago and they were great. They were all trained but not to this level. I may have to look into it.....looks like fun. She can be a handfull right now.......more pup than dog. I think I have a lot to learn.....right along with her. Am I correct in saying that most of the dogs I'm seeing in competition are males? Another question.......does spaying the females have any impact on their aggressivness?
