i have been considering transitioning my crested over to a remote collar. For general obedience, and to work on some of his in-crate behaviors.
we have 3 remote collars at the house(dogtras), and i would REALLY prefer to not purchase a seperate "toy dog" e collar.
The collars we have are just too big for his neck. And by that, i guess i mean too heavy, it will close up that small, but the weight makes it slide down, and makes him not pick his head up all the way.
now, i have seen some mals with an e-collar around their tuck area, i know these dogs are um...difficult, and that that collar placement is normally in addition to a normal e-collar on the neck, BUT, would it be possible to use this collar placement on my small dog, still using the lowest setting needed?? I feel like with the weight of the box, it will sit naturally on his underside.

Mallory,
How heavy is your crested? My little dogs are a bit too borderline in size to safely use a stim e collar on them so I just don't consider it part of a training bag for them. Also I would be hesitant to use it on a dog that size in the way you describe because of proximity to the heart.
Good luck,
Melissa

hes JUST under 10 lbs,im sure on some days he breaks the 10 lb mark.
hes not delicate or breakable like some toy dogs, he just has a VERY slender, longer arched neck, like an italian greyhound neck.
im curious about your comment on the proximity to his heart. the e-collar would be around his abdomen, near his junk.
would it really be closer to his heart than his neck??

I use an e-collar, it's a reasonable tool used properly.
If you can't afford the proper tool, then I think you should just go about training the long accepted tried and true method.
Rewarded good and corrected bad, via leash or with/withholding of the reward.
Mallory, it sounds to me like you're looking for the lazy out.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.

we've used e-collars, for quite a while with the other dogs, and the correct way, i know how to use them, and train with them.
i never thought what i was asking would be considered lazy, e-collars are valuable tools, and can be used on little dogs, just like the big guys, maybe cheap though, because no, i don't want to spend that much IF the normal sized collar can be used in the modified location.
if the normal e-collar can't be used on a different location, then it can't, and i'll get a tripper sized e-collar, tis afterall why i asked, lol.

I sure wouldn't use the regular big one on a toy breed's "waist."
Aren't these pretty minor issues you're talking about? (Basic ob and "in
crate" behaviors?)

minor, would like to work on off leash OB(obviously, on long line first, etc), that sort of thing. hes not bad, he doesn't need that extra "kick" like you normally think of with big dogs that have the e-collars around the groin....
i hope i didnt' confuse anyone, i wasn't asking that because soem larger dogs need it, it was simply a question of, is it a safe alternate location of the collar, since its heavy on his neck.
like i mentioned, if its not a good idea, i won't do it, i will get a little e-collar, and use it on his neck like normal...

The very best outcome I could see would be that it would confuse the heck out of him. I know it was just a question, but I couldnt imagine it getting any good results.
