LJ grabs the toy then wrestles around until he wraps both front legs around the toy and holds on tight. He's amazingly agile with his feet/paws. Should I allow him to grab hold of the toy like that when he tries, or redirect to simply hold in his mouth? He really, really wants to hold on.
Is he having a playtime with the toys and will he release them if you ask him? If he's playing I'd let him play his way. If this is during training sessions, I'd probably insist he hold the toy in his mouth.
Thanks. I'll say it's during playtime b/c we're not bite training. He's just so aggressive with it, but he will let go on "release."
I haven't decided if I'm going to pursue true bite training with him, I call him my PPD, but my definition of that is much like what others have spoken of... looks big and bad, stands strong when facing off, barks and/or growls on command, etc. Confidence in myself & my ability to *properly* train him will be necessary to pursue more indepth training.
