Does anybody Home School here? our local high school has turned into a real S hole, my son is struggling because of poor material conditions and lack of control. The only class that is effective is the JROTC unit, the Commander has set up his own little empire where he has effectively run off all the administrators and tossed all the PC crap. Our county will allow parents to selected classes and still home school.
I was wondering if somebody could recommend a company that would provide the course materials.

Dennis what grade is your kid in? Depending on where he's at in his education sometimes it's easier to go get a GED and start community college or a trade school or do running start than fulfill the crazy requirements for high school.
If your kid is a bit too young or not ready for that I will ask my sister for who she recommends for homeschooling materials. She's a homeschooling consultant for her district.

I may be off my rocker but as I recall if you have a GED and certain really small number of college credits it's the same enlistment wise as having a HS diploma as far as enlistment opportunity. If he just had the GED though you're very right. It does make it a little harder for those seeking the military path.
I'll email my sister and see what she can tell me. Do you plan on finishing this school year in homeschool or would this be 11th and 12th grade only? Also is there a state assessment in VA you have to pass like we had here?
Hey Dennis,
My youngest sister used this program to finish her last year of high school. She was in pretty much the same boat as your son. I don't think they offer diplomas, just courses and materials; you just take the transcripts to your public school and they give you credit for them there (I think). She was just trying to get into a decent college. I believe it is a very well respected program and I know it is demanding. http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/programs/hstrans.cfm
It's not a religious program, just sponsored by one.

Must be a slow day in special ed. She emailed me back rather quickly.
She said to check with your guidance office to find out if they have material on file that's available for you to borrow for homeschooling. Many districts have curriculum on file that's available for you for free to satisfy their requirements. It they do not have this available then you'll need to find out what credits and courses your kid needs to get a diploma along with if the privately purchased materials need to be approved by the district to satisfy these credits. Also find out about what documentation is required by the school to gain credits and graduate. Some schools want day to day detail, others are fine with test results.
Dennis, I can get you the name of a family I know who has home-schooled both of their kids. The daughter is now in college and is beyond impressive, the son is 17 and equally as nice a young man. They are a great family; dad a fireman, mom a nurse. They live in Williamsburg and I feel confident they would be more than happy to talk with you.
