Our puppy Kane is the newest addition to our family and he does very well in the house. I must say he is or at least to me seems HUGE for his age. (Any idea what the average hight and weith is for a 13 week old is?) Iknow its hard to tell all dogs are differnt but any ideas or anyone want to share their dogs info at that age?
I was wondering what age should he be before he will be ok outside all the time. Now I dont mean he will be left out there everyday all day long, I will bring him in at night. Plus be out there with him playing etc. But what is a good age? He is a very good dog but he looks like hes going to be very big, not to mention during spring and summer when the weather is so nice. Theres no hurry especaially since hes just a baby. Hes only 3 months old. Thanks for any advice or information!
Well I dont have an outside kennel, he would have full run of the yeard, but what Im thinking is I need to get one. For a large GSD what size would I need? Yes a Mastif and a GSD do vary greatly! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Right now if I put him out he cries and tried to tear down my sliding glass door!!
I have a GSD pup (9months) and I have just begun letting him outside for 5-10 minutes alone to do his business. He is an extremely active, high drive dog and will get into anything if left unattended, and I mean anything. I even still glance at him through the window while he is out doing his business. He also prefers being with me than alone and sits at the sliding glass door waiting for me (guess I'm his play buddy)...:-) The couple of times that I have ignored him and walked away he found something not so good to eat (flower bulbs) and I was off to the vet. So I would have to say the answer is really dog specific but at 13 weeks I would lean towards not leaving him unattended in a big yard. A kennel run that is safe would probably be just fine as long as it is sheltered. I can't answer about size because they all grow differently, I would suggest looking at the parents they are a pretty good indicator of size.
Well I will deffinatly invest in a outside dog kennel... any idea a good size? Also we rent so it would have to be one that can be moved or taken down. I have seen some at Home depot and Lowes but they seem sort of small.
They come in 6'X 6' or 6' X 12' chain link panels, so you can make it as big as you want. They are easy to set up and easy to take down and if you exercise the dog every day then the kennel doesn't have to be totally huge....even when a dog has the whole back yard, he is not running laps anyway. A kennel will also keep your dog safe from things he could get into in your yard that might not be good for him.
