Like the title says, whats next on your to-do list? Your training list that is? Trying to get your dog a better heel? Want to teach them the send away? Train him to walk on two legs? Train her to fetch Beer?
Well for me the next thing I want to train my dog to do is "focus" make eye contact on command.
How about you?

Youngster - focus, focus, focus in all types of situations.
5 y/o dog- I've really got to come up with something. He is super motivated to try anything after I take youngster out and work with her.
11 y/o dog. Hmmm, she is perfect but still loves to works. I've taken to hiding my keys in various places outdoors for her to find. Maybe I'll mix this up by hiding a few sets and rewarding her for finding mine.

For me, there is always more than one thing, they each have their own training plan. No dates or timelines, just things that I want to get accomplished, usually in groups of 4 things to work on. Both of them would get bored if we did the same thing over and over. So right now:
My 3 year old,
1. fixing\re-teaching heel, she crabbed. I taught her wrong, using the old ball in the armpit routine, never again!
2. Retrieve objects (taught “hold” and “front” over the winter) finally putting it all together.
3. Whistle recalls, coming in fast and ending up in between my legs.
4. Tightening up positions (sit, down, stand)
My 11 month old puppy,
1. Heeling, just got off the barrier and have leash pressure established, start teaching turns soon.
2. Teaching “hold”, not going very good at the moment, but she is a puppy
3. Whistle recalls, coming in fast and ending up in between my legs.
4. Teaching positions, already knows sit, down, working on stand – just added the command yesterday.
Plus there is my standard things I work on every once in a while, like, touch pads, agility ladder, protection when I have a decoy, find toy in woods, some basic tracking, engagement in new places, an exercise I learned somewhere to have the dog go tightly around my legs (used for heeling),etc…

What a fun thread!
For Conan, I'd like to get his HCT (basically the same thing as the HT but from AHBA). But Judy will be out of town for Nationals until the beginning of May so we'll see. Other than that, we're really doing well at tightening up his obedience. I never did get to test for the CGC because of my schedule. But now I'm really ready. His stays are great and we're working on out of sigh stays right now. He's such a good dog. So it looks like those will be the next two things on my list.
With Dolly, well, it's hard to train a deaf dog. And she's pretty perfect. We kind of let her do whatever she wants outside of basic boundaries and structure.

I would love to try for a rally title. I've SO wanted to title in OB, but my dog's reactiveness has meant all that has been kind of put on hold. I feel like Rally would be a nice intro into OB for us. We've done tons of OB training, the reactiveness is fairly under control now, and Murphy has his CGC so the only thing holding us back is ME
Of course there is always 'cleaning up' to do with the obedience, but I'm learning that with my current pooch less is more. If I do obedience once in awhile he's energetic, correct and engaged; if I do it frequently things start getting sloppy and disconnected. My next step is trying to be more proactive in finding that balance between enough and too much, and to get off my keester, get brave and go for that title.

This is a good thread. Good to commit to goals, at least for me.
I belong to an AKC club, so my goals are AKC related:
Rally Excellent and Novice Obedience (CD) before Christmas.
There. I said it, I wrote it down, now I have to do it.

We are working on 2 things.
Getting Eddie to pick something off the floor and give it to me, and to pull me up off the couch using a tug rag.
He is doing the tug fairly well, and the picking up items is ok..not proofed, but he is slowly getting the idea.

Hi, fun thread.
Ok, since I just found this site about a month ago, I am starting over at the beginning with my whole pack since Ihnow see what we've been doing wrong all these years. So, re-establishing pack order and ground work. THe difference has been amazing already! I am so very pleased.
I have begun marker training with my Border Collie/Kelpie mix as an experiment - he's been a handful in the past, he's becoming a dream dog now already.
I am working on rebuilding confidence in two dogs, (darn that yank and crank business!!!)and practising more hand signals for my deaf puppy.
I notice that Katie mentioned having a deaf dog as well. I am having a ball teaching my Willow new 'words' she has been one of my easier dogs to train strangley enough. I guess I accidently set the pack order correctly from the start with her. lol
I would love to hear more about your deaf dog, Katie. Any suggestions for me and mine would be greatly appreciated as well.
Best wishes to everyone with their training goals. I am loving 're-training' the Leerburg way!
