I know many of you on this forum are not fans of National K9 School for Dog Trainers but I thought I would FYI everyone with this link regarding Scott Mueller, the owner of the school:
Ummmm...sounds like he's a real nice fellow.
Nothing in that article led me to believe that he's qualified to run a dog training school though.
< shrug >
To become a "professional" in that organization is as easy as paying money and getting one or two letters of reference. Not exactly the screening that I would look for when wanting to ensure that the person is credible. I don't know this Mueller from a hole in the ground but that website is not going to give me a ringing endorsement for him or anyone else.
Exactly the response I knew I would get. Thanks for the confirmation.
As I said, it was an FYI.
Yes Will, he is a nice fellow, but also a competent and accomplished trainer, regardless of your opinion of him or the school. He has also worked with many police departments all around the country helping them establish and train the K9's in their departments.
Ingrid,
When your acknowledged for your expertise and professionalism in dog training, please attach the link, I'd love to read it!
Gee, where I come from I thought helping the handicapped and disabled was a noble thing.
It may have been a paid ad. But do you really think he paid that organization to induct him into their hall of fame?
If it were someone from this forum being inducted into the hall of fame there would be kudos all over the place.
I don't belong to the organization personally, but when people are looking for dog trainers for PETS that is a legitimate place to look for competent professional trainers, so Iv'e been told.
The Koehler Method of Dog Training is just as valid and useful in the Twenty-first century as it was in the Twentieth century and we suspect it will continue to have just as much meaning for as long as we have dogs to train.

Lisa,
Wow, I am flattered that you want to read about me! Perhaps I will just send in a couple references and 100 bucks and become a member of this organization. Lot less work than outlining my skills/accomplishments in dog training Here's the thing, I don't need to pass on links regarding my expertise or lack thereof in dog training, people that know me know my skills and I don't have shingle up for training people to train dogs etc.
I said I did not know this guy from a hole in the ground which means I cannot say whether he is a good dog trainer or not. What I DID say that I would not use an organization that's only criteria for being a member is paying a fee and a couple references from vets etc as an endorsement as to the quality of the skill of the trainer.
You seem awfully sensitive about this gentleman and I am not sure why. If you think he is great so be it. If you want people to be awe-inspired based on that one link, well I think the individuals on this board are a tad more discerning in what they look at for verification of skill.
Plus, it sounds like this gentleman gets plenty of business so who cares what we all think?
