What would be some of the best competitions to get involved with if you have a mixed breed dog?
I have a Chihuahua Boxer puppy, by the way he is fantastic, but as far as I can tell there isn't much I can do with him competitively! His frame is fairly square, athletic build, looks very boxer with tighter jowls. Looks like he will be a small boxer when he is fully grown.
Whether I can compete or not I'm going to train him to do agility, obedience, fly-ball, etc. if nothing else for exercise and relationship building. Also, I plan on a pure breed for my next dog and I want to compete with him too, so this will be good practice!
Anyone know specifics on mixed breed competitions?
Yeah female was a small Boxer, no more than 40lbs. The male Chihuahua was sort of on the larger side. He's really good looking to be honest. Let me see if I can post a pic here.
You can also post a photo in the remembrance section, of a dog who has died.
And you can link us to as many photos as you like! I would open a free Photobucket (or similar) account -- and you can link us to individual pics or albums or whatever you like.
ASCA, the Australian Shepherd club, also allows all breeds including mixed. They do agility, obedience and will be doing rally soon if they have not started all ready. I believe, but am not sure, that they do herding for all dogs also, but would need to check on that.
Barbara's right - mixed breeds can compete in ASCA obedience, tracking, rally, and agility.
As far as the stockdog program goes, there is a list of eligible "herding breeds" that may compete in ASCA stockdog trials. If your dog's breed (or mix thereof) is not listed, you have to contact the stockdog committee for more info.
