Yesterday morning (5/25/2010)my wife and I were awakened by our dog, and the dogs next door, barking. The neighbors dogs are Italian Greyhounds. Our dog, Hans, is a GSD.
The neighbor's dogs sounded frantic. They had a very high pitched bark we don't hear from them very often. Hans was barking at the front door, then ran down the hallway to the bedrooms, barking all the way, nudged our doorknob, then ran back to the front of the house barking. I asked my wife what time it was. She said 5:21.
Hans usually only barks like that if someone is going by, and only comes looking for us when ... well, I don't know why he does that, but I think it is when he thinks there is something going on we should know about. My wife looked out the window, there wasn't anyone in sight that she could see.
Later, when we watched the news, we learned that there was a magnitude 3.4 earthquake in the town of Duvall, about 85 miles from where we live, at the same time the dogs were barking.
Were the dogs reacting to the earthquake? I don't know. But I'd like to hear from other Western Washington dog owners. Did your dogs react to the earthquake in the Duvall area, at 5:21 AM on May 25?

You know. Now that I think about it my dogs did wake me up early around 5:30am. I just let them out to potty and didn't think twice about it. I don't tend to notice earthquakes myself unless they're pretty gnarly like the Nisqually Earthquake.
You guys can feel a 3.4? (that's a shot at God's Etch-a-Sketch, California, and not you.)
ROFL. A 3.4 isn't an earthquake, is it? When we got shook up bythe 7.0 centered in Mexicali our dogs all just kept sleeping and playing. They are true California dogs! LOL
