As some of you might have remembered, Frost finished her CD at the beginning of June. Frost attained her CDX in three straight days this weekend and did a very nice job doing it.
No class placements but we were in the Open B class and it was a regional qualifying show for the National Obedience Championship. Due to this the judging was particularly brutal (that there was an AKC rep ringside might have added to that) and each day Frost was the only non-OTCH and/or UDX dog to qualify in the class. On Monday, only 5 of the 16 Open B dogs Q'd which is not great considering the caliber of dogs entered so I was fine with 5th place I had to chuckle because as we went around for awards the first day, everyone was mentioning which UDX leg it was for them (the dog beside me was leg 68) and when the judge got to me I had a grin on my face when I mentioned that it was her first CDX leg. She also took Best of Breed in the conformation ring one of the two days that I showed her there.
Needless to say I am thrilled with Frost's work ethic and intelligence. She got a lot of nice compliments from the other exhibitors and she maintained a nice happy up attitude throughout the weekend. She is a fun fun dog to show and has a drop on recall that is so fast that she slides on her belly when she downs which tends to get the audience laughing. Frost is halfway trained for utility and we plan on entering the utility ring next spring/summer after she hopefully takes a maternity break this winter.
That's really awesome Ingrid. Congratulations to both of you. Heavens she's come a long way since then, but I still think my favorite picture of Frost is her peeking out of the mailbox with the postage stamp on her ear.
Go Frost! Geez! Three tries and done?!?! AWESOME! Laya and I are on try number 5..... . Hopefully this weekend we'll get our first. She keeps skipping the high jump on the return - only in the ring. During practice she's perfect. Grrrrr. Please, please, please post any tips or tricks!
Thanks all! Lisa, it is hard when they get ringwise. Do you have the ability to go to "correction" matches or set up a fake show with friends? I would than correct in that type of setting. How is her retrieve? Does she go out and back fast albeit missing the jump on the way back? Or is she unenthusiastic in her retrieves?
I am likely going to breed Frost to a Robin son. Robin is the old boy that I bred her to in February that she did not take with. She just came into heat today and I am going to let her run with Robin and if she takes, she takes. If not, I believe I will breed her to this boy in January:
His titles are not up to date. He has his HX on sheep and ducks as well as a leg or two on the HS B course on sheeps and/or ducks. I can't keep those herding titles straight. He is owned by Frost's breeder.
